I''ve just realized it''s leap year, which means, of course, at least in American folklore, that the girls can propose on February 29th.....!!

Does this mean the girl has to 1) buy him a diamond ring? 2) Buy herself a diamond ring?

What does the pricescope trendsetters and zeitgeisters (and anthropologists?) think ought to happen with respect to jewelry exchange?!?

I believe that Sadie Hawkins day (February 29th) just means a woman can go after her man. Doesn't necessarily mean she can hogtie him till he agrees to an engagement. Simply a mechanism to the first 'date' out of the way. Then what happens, happens.

Hogtie! Great. Like something Rene Zellweger in Cold Mountain might do...

I do remember the Sadie Hawkins dance at high school -- you're right...nobody got engaged.

Wait! Since you brought it up... We'd actually LOVE to see a woman buy her own engagement ring for a change! It would be kind of nice to see a woman actually spend some of her hard earned money in the same manner and with the same level of expectation that we see so many guys having to do... SOME women are so demanding and insatiable when it comes to what they expect in the way of a diamond from the guy they 'love'... We're not saying ALL women, just some... Wouldn't it be a kick to have some guy sit there and 'pout' and threaten to cut his 'love' off from sex if he didn't get the carat diamond he expected? No doubt we're opening up a can of worms and tossing it about here, but you really should see and hear some of what we do

Robin and Todd: I think I am much happier not seeing and hearing all that you do.

I prefer to dwell on the romance, excitment, and of course sparkle -- even if the more sordid side does show occasionally!

But this is a good thing, isn't it? Well, only if one sells more diamond rings than he gives, suposedly. I gave my guy one and got none since this is not a custom down here...
