I''ve decided on a Michael B. trois collection engagement ring w/ 1.23 ct center diamond.

It''s the top one pictured below w/ radiant cut diamond.

Here are the specs: 1.23 ct, G color, vs2 clarity

I''m thinking of purchasing the ring from Bill Pearlman over the net.

The reason is b/c I can save on taxes plus I really enjoyed talking to Bill over the phone.

Do lot of people purchase over the internet?

Thanks,

James

i love purchasing over the internet. more often than not, i can find exactly what i''m looking for without too much effort. i don''t have to listen to pushy salespeople and i can find unbiased information. not to mention it is convenient.

i''m sure you will find your purchasing experience to be a good one, bill is a really nice guy. best of luck to you!

Belle: I wish every retailer had to read you note above every morning before they opened up their doors or turned on their computer. There are a lot of really nice people with B&M stores who just don''t realize how people feel about the way business is conducted in stores versus over the Intenet. You have said something of importance that should be in the minds of retailers.....not just jewelry retailers, but nearly all retail sales establishments.

Funny how a human personality over the phone or in an email correspondence can shine through the technology on occasion. While many of us admit to prefering the Internet because it is less pushy and somewhat impersonal, we also like it because it allows certain individuals to present themselves in a very good way that have a positive influence on our willingness to buy from them and only them.

It is all a new game with new rules..........

Tons of people here on PS have purchased through the net. You save cash and as Belle said, you don''t have to worry about a salesperson following you all over a store and being in your face. Many companies on the net have really great return policies and allow for you to send stones and rings back and forth until you find the one you want.

Of course, a B&M has its advantages as well. If you are after developing a more personal and comfortable relationship, B&M''s can be a great place for that, provided you find a store you really feel comfortable with. I am envious of people who have a "family jeweler" or someone they always go to whenever they want some jewelry. Not only are they getting great deals, but they have a longstanding and wonderful relationship with these salespeople.

Either place has it''s advantages and disadvantages. It''s up to you to decide who you truly feel most comfortable with!

Hi,

I think a lot of consumers here on PS purchase over the internet. Most of us have read up on diamonds/settings and realize that you can generally, but not always, get a better price by buying online. Others have developed a great report with specific vendors and this is why some choose to buy from online. Sounds like you've discovered both, so I think it's to your advantage to purchase the ring from this seller.

For me, I feel alot more comfortable going into the store and buying something that expensive. I would rather see the product in hand than going through the paranoia of being ripped off or shipping it back and forth. It''ll be easier to answer people when they ask, "where did you get it?" versus explaining to them it''s real, they did this and that to ensure authenticity, etc. I don''t know but that added cost is better. Just make sure you don''t buy a diamond that has been marked up dramatically.

Even if you do decide to buy online, I wouldn''t even mind flying over there to pick it up and see it. Atleast I can say I bought it from a store vs. the internet.

I love buying over the internet. As belle mentioned you don''t have to deal with pushy sales people and it is very convenient. I worked for a fine jewelry store and know more than most sales people that I encounter in many B&M''s. So for me it''s a no brainer. I have purchased from 2 of the PS vendors and am very pleased. HTH!!!!

oh, that''s wonderful to hear! congrats!

also, some online vendors do allow you to look at the stones before purchase-if u live nearby obviously this helps. This makes it more comfortable all the way around.

Jcouture: Congratulations!!! I literally said "awwwwww" to myself! I started reading this thread thinking it was all about Internet vendors and then I happend upon your second post saying that you had purchased the ring and she said "yes." Wonderful!!!
