Glad your vision is improving, I''m sure it will get easier day by day now. My friend had PRK a few years ago and has perfect vision now.

Just think of not having to fuss around with glasses or contacts any more!

Thanks lilykat - that''s great to know that your friend had such a good experience, its definitely a challenge to keep taking the long view right now, but I''m really trying!

PRK, which is what I had, is often performed on those who don''t have corneas suitable for LASIK (I think mine were too bumpy). With PRK, the cells have to grow back in, and then settle, so it takes a while for that to happen, hence why I am still blurry at 1 week post-op, but should be pretty much clear at 3 weeks out or so and thereafter, although everyone is a little different in their healing.
HI:

DH has the same procedure as you and healed quickly--mild blurriness as you describe. He has enjoyed the wonderous correction but now requires a bit of a modification--but then again, he is old....

Healing vibes your way!

cheers--Sharon

I think we must have had different types of surgery, I am glad to hear everything''s going well! It is so worth it

Porridge - I think we did. LASIK is where they cut the flap, and fix the cornea underneath. The results are more immediate, because the surface epithelium (skin cells basically) of the eye are left intact. On the other hand, there''s a higher risk of complications - in some cases, the flap can take years to close, so there''s a risk of dislodging it.

That''s interesting AG! I was told by my surgeon that I had "fine big healthy corneas"! Took it as a compliment

I was also told I have very large pupils, which I am now slightly paranoid about, and he warned me that it would take longer for the halos around lights to disappear because of that.

Best wishes for your recovery!

Haha Porridge - what a funny set of terms for corneas!!

Mine were "plenty thick" but "a little bumpy"

Stopping by to say that I hope you are healing well. Take it easy!

AG, I just saw this thread!

Congrats on your PRK! I had LASIK, and my friend had PRK. She''s happily 20/20 still several years out.
Isn''t it amazing to be able to SEE without corrective lenses???!

Congrats!!!

Sharon - I missed your note before, thank you so much for writing of your husband''s successful procedure! Its so great to hear about those who have had the procedure and it was successful - I know it will get better, but its hard to be patient in the short term

Thanks Ms Lynn - I am so glad that your friend had a good experience. The vast majority of people I''ve talked to/read about have had a good experience with PRK, and my surgeon was really excellent, one of the best in the area. Now I''m just trying *so hard* to be patient while it heals up. But it is amazing that even though its still so blurry, I can see well enough to watch TV, drive, etc...without glasses or contacts - that hasn''t been true for 16+ years!

And Mr. Ollie is helping in my recovery by being extra snuggly - I think he''s been spending 4-5+ hours a day on my lap, its so sweet
