Hey everybody--

I have a question before I make the purchase...

I am considering purchasing a diamond (obviously

but, the girdle is not laserscribed. They said that they could send it to the GIA and have them "laserscribe" it.

I would like it laserscribed incase it ever gets lost, it will be easy to trace who it belongs to if it is found and reported to the police. However, since I am purchasing the diamond online, I have yet to see the stone. Therefore, if I don''t like it, can I return it to the dealer with the laserscribe?

Does anyone else insist on a laserscribe? Or does nobody care?

Thanks,
Greg

Usually a laser inscription comes with a lab certificate of some sort, correct me if I'm wrong.

I would also venture to say it could not be returned if altered in anyway from the original state that it came in when it was purchased, as with most other items that are purchased anywhere.

It is not so easy to get the laserscribe on the diamond. Call the GIA. I called them and I believe the criteria are : loose stone, accompanied by original GIA cert that was done in the last 6 months, $187 to re-cert the stone and about $30 to inscribe--plus a several week turn-around time.
Realistically, what are the chances of getting a stolen diamond back?

It comes with a AGS cert. but no laserscribe.

Laser inscribe with a lab cert is good, especially for insurance purposes and resale. As far as if you would ever get it back if stolen, highly doubtful unless the crooks were really idiots.

Dave Atlas at www.gemappraisers.com can laser inscribe the diamond for you. If you were planning to have the diamond shipped to an appraiser, Dave Atlas is one of the best!

Thanks pal, but I hope that I will never have to resell the diamond.

I actually found a diamond that I really love... even though I haven't actually seen it.

I just order the diamond and I got it without the laserscribe just incase I don't like it, I won't have the hassle of trying to return it.

Hopefully it will never get lost...
