Has anyone ever shined a laser pointer into their diamond before?

I just got proposed to yesterday and have been having the best time playing with what is supposed to be my cat''s toy! When you shine it into my center diamond, all three stones glow red and little beams of light shine all over the room.

It is the coolest thing I have ever seen!

I just locked myself in the bathroom with the laser pointer, lots of fun!!!!

Can't wait to go home and try it out.

It looks kewl but watch your eyes.
Laser light in the eyes is not good at all.
While the laser pointers dont have a lot of energy they can cause eye damage fairly quickly if it hits the eye under some circumstances.

I have done this too!! I waited till night time when the room can be completely dark and I shined the pointer to the diamond and BOOM... little red sparkles all over the walls and ceiling. I had a BLAST playing with it.

Okay, that's it. I have to get one. LOL you guys are so much fun. Thanks for the reminder storm. Oooh, just had a thought. My mouse is one of those laser ones with the red light. Let me see if it works. Nope, but it does glow a really pretty red.

I smell ray-tracing.

Cool!! I showed my husband and he made me take my ring off so he could play with it.

Shay - I have one of those red-light-glowing mouse too and you are right, it WON'T work.

I was trying to see if I can see the RAY-TRACING effect and see the light return pattern.... but no success with the laser pointer.

The effect was not that great for me, though after staring at it, I now have 20/20 vision!

lol!

Something you'll notice with laser light is that there seems to be speckles in the light when it shines on a surface. This is cause by the coherent lightwaves of the laser interfering in your eyeball! The effect becomes more grainy the further from the reflected laser light you get. If you move your head side to side, the speckles move. It's pretty interesting to see.

I used to make homemade holograms (3D pictures made with a laser) and the effect is very noticeable with them. On Halloween, I always pull out the laser and mess with the neighborhood kids. You can make thier plastic pumkins light up from about a half mile away.

As strmrdr mentioned, lasers are so concentrated that the parallel beam gets focused to a pinpoint in your eye, so a direct hit from a beam can cause eye damage.

Be careful of those reflections in the stones!

You're onto something Sir John. I can just see the commercial for this new light measuring device. A disco ball ... red laser lights ... diamonds ... who are going to be the dancers in the background?

Well, good sir Knight, if the Belle of the Ball were to dance it would not be in the background.
