I am considering a stone that has a GIA grading. My question is the GIA report does not indicate that there is
an inscription of the GIA# on the girdle. Does this indicate that the inscription was made after the GIA grading?
Does this mean that the GIA report is not valid since the stone has now been altered?

Can someone here clear this up for me.

Much Thanks

what is inscribed on the girdle? did you ask the vendor for an explanation?

You've left out a third option. Maybe the report doesn't list one, because there isn't one. I find that is usually the case.

Unless you've actually seen the inscription.

I have viewed the inscription on the stone.
The inscription is the GIA report #.

Thanks

The Fact that the diamond is laser inscribed should be written on the GIA cert, in the comment section.

I would have some questions too if the cert didn''t mention the inscription. The inscription are minute, easy to miss under 10x. so maybe the grader didn''t see.

it doesn''t mean that the report is no longer valid, it just means that the diamond was inscribed after the diamond was graded. it raises the ''question'' flag for me but not any huge red flags. i would ask the vendor why the inscription is not on the report just to see what their answer is.

not a mystery, not a concern, just a post-grading inscription - be glad you have it.

It’s not at all unusual. GIA sells laser inscription services as an add-on to their standard grading service when you order a Diamond Quality Report. If you order them both at the same time they will do the inscription first and then it will be described on the DQR under the comments section. If they had the inscription done later by either GIA or someone else then it won’t be there. It’s not a problem.
