CUT
-The pavilion is 41.4 degrees (43.9%), and I am trying to figure out how much of an issue this is.
-How much will this "artificially inflate the diamond's weight?
-How much reflection will it lose from the larger pavilion?
-Given the crown angle is a little high will this compound with the larger pavilion issue and make reflection pretty bad?
-I know cut is the most important, so this diamond really concerns me given the cut is not ideal. Would I be better off buying an ideal cut in the 1.5ct $8k range instead of buying this one at a supposed discount but with a non-ideal cut?

Price
I am trying to buy the diamond from an acquaintance for around $8k; any guidance on if the price is low or high would be amazingly helpful! It is really hard to compare to other rocks b/c there are so few EGL USA diamonds this big to compare to.

I would not buy that diamond for $8,000. The cut is just not good at all. Compare prices to K colored GIA or AGS diamonds which is how the color of this diamond would be graded.

I wanted to add that when I was shopping in the diamond district in NYC I had a salesperson try to sell me and EGL diamond for $8,000. It was much much nicer than the one you posted for the same price. It was a 60/60 type cut. It actually was not a bad diamond, just not exactly what I was looking for. Here are the specs:

1.78 carat F
clarity enhanced to VS2
supposed hearts and arrows
cut excellent
polish very good
symmetry excellent

I'm not sure if yours is clarity enhanced or how that factors into the price but the cut alone is enough to keep me looking for something better. Here is a beautifully cut 1.68 carat K from Brian Gavin for $10,669. http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.687-k-si1-round-diamond-ags-104075658039 They're having a sale in a few days but I'm not sure how much it will be discounted.

Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate the feedback!

I offered $7k and she: "I'm understanding that the retail value is between $14 and $15k and private sale should go for around $8.5K. I'm going to do a little more looking around. If you can get closer to 8 let me know, I'd definitely prefer to sell it to you."

Do you think it would be worth it at $7k? Or do you think the diamond would just look flat next to a GIA ideal cut I and I should be getting something eye clean instead. Would love to hear more opinions. Thank you!! Thank you!

If it is clarity enhanced that certainly lowers the value. Also, if that is EGL USA certified I wouldn't automatically assume it is 2 color grades lower, though it is certainly possible. I think we can help you find something that is in your budget and cut much better without having to give up too much in the carat department.

The diamond likely is eye clean. I would go actually down in clarity to save money as long as the diamond is eye clean. What you see under a loupe doesn't matter as long as you don't see it with the naked eye.

The diamond you posted would definitely not sparkle the way an ideal cut diamond would, not even close. I will see what else I can find on some recommended vendor websites. If you like the color of that diamond it would be considered a K. If you want something whiter the cost goes up with each color grade.

This rock isn't color enhanced right? Can you tell by the certificate? Then, yeah I believe in GIA terms the color would likely be a J (1 down) and the clarity would likely be a VS2 (the same); judging from this: https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamond-grading/clarity-and-color...

I think I might be able to pick the diamond up at like $7,200; but its tough to say if that is a big enough of a price break to make it worth taking a less than ideal cut.

Thanks for the feedback so far, really appreciate it!!

I know they're a bit smaller but by no means does an ideal cut 1.3 carat diamond look small. The setting can make a big difference in the appearance of the size of the diamond too. The folks here can help you out with that as well.

1.3 carat I SI2 http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-6249913-1.30-carat-Round-diamond-I-color-SI2-clarity.aspx $7,905

1.3 carat K SI2 http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.356-k-si1-round-diamond-ags-bl-104076722021
This diamond has strong blue flourescence which does not negatively affect the diamond. Only $6,365
