Lake Tahoe vacation?

I need to get away. Badly. And I have a week off at the end of June so I was thinking about 4 days somewhere nice and Tahoe popped into mind. Problem is I haven''t been since I was in college and have no idea where to stay.

We want: To be one or within walking distance of the lake itself... near a beach would be lovely. Don''t care if we near casino''s as we don''t gamble. And I don''t really know the difference between NV side and CA side or North or South or anything.

I know a lot of people get condos or townhomes but it''s just going to be the two of us and we are the type who want our accomodations be to lovely cause we do spend time in our rooms quite a bit.

Any recommendations?

What a perfect place to go for a bit of relaxation. We got married in Lake Tahoe last August, I absolutely love it there!

If you want to visit the north shore, you should check out the Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort. It's not a big resort (no onsite restaurant etc.) but it is right on the beach. In fact, all of the rooms are oriented to provide a view of the lake. We stayed in a "Lake View Kitchen" suite on the ground level so our room didn't have vaulted ceilings, but it still felt pretty open. It's on the California side in Tahoe Vista and is only about 45 miles from the Reno airport. We definitely plan to stay there again.

I am just taking a quick break from deep cleaning, but saw this thread and had to post. Gypsy, I have been looking for a getaway and just recently found this place. I haven't even done a search for reviews yet, but looking at all the pics, I can't imagine it's bad. This MUST be heaven on earth.

We are going to Lake Tahoe in Oct for the first leg of our honeymoon and are staying in North Tahoe (north tahoe is the non-party, more relaxing and earthy side - not many big casinos, but lots of spas and hiking!). We picked a resort that looked really romantic and was right ON the lake, so no walking to required. good luck! Here the link so you may look!

Glad you are going to Lake Tahoe Layla. DH and I love it there. We always stay at the casinos though.

It is sooooooooooooooo dang beautiful there. We always take a drive around the lake too.

And I have a week off in August too, so it doesn't work for June. August would be lovely as well. I just really need a get away.

I''ve stayed at the Grand Hyatt Ellen linked to but it was before the renovation. It had a nice location, and it could have used a spruce up when I was there so it''s probably great now. The others are right about the north side being more natural, woodsy, and the south side is more gambly (if that''s a word). I''ve stayed at both and although I''m not much of a gambler, it can be fun to be on the Nevada side if there''s a show in town that appeals to you. Otherwise, I''d say go to the north side.

We did a lakeside hike with Tahoe Trips & Trails. The lake is gorgeous, and we got to see some parts we wouldn''t have found on our own. A kayak tour would also be fabulous. We''ve also taken the paddleboat which was a nice way to see the shoreline if you don''t mind hanging with a lot of tourists.

We spend quite a bit of time in Tahoe. We generally stay in south lake since there''s more to do and it''s nearer to the skiing resorts we like, but we''ve stayed in north lake a handful of times as well. The differences between the two are simple. South lake has more restaurants, more of the big casinos (Harrahs, Harveys, etc.), and north lake is a bit sleepier. You can get to beautiful hiking on either side of the lake.

We always use vrbo to find places to stay since we like to have the option of cooking our own meals, having a private hot tub, and don''t really want to be subjected to overpriced drinks at bars. I''m sure you could find a cute romantic place there. I''ve been to the Hyatt for brunch and for dinner. Overpriced, but nice. I''ve never actually stayed there so I can''t comment on the rooms. I''ve heard good things about the MontBleu Resort in south lake.

Not sure if any of this helps, but either way, you''ll have a lovely time. It''s hard not to in Tahoe!

I''ve camped in the mountains of Idaho, and swore no place could be more scenically beautiful, but, I was wrong.

I''ve stayed at the Hyatt a few times, but only on the upper ''executive'' floors or whatever they call it. My friend''s mom is a high roller, so we stayed for free. The beach is just across the street and they have the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in.

Lots of hiking nearby too.
