Traffic this Labor Day weekend is likely to move at an even slower pace than it did last year. Some 35.5 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home this weekend, the highest travel volume for the holiday since 2008 and a 13% increase since 2009, according to the American Automobile Association. In 2008, before the Great Recession had depleted people’s pocketbooks, Labor Day travelers hit 45.2 million, the highest number of drivers for the holiday weekend in the past 15 years. Labor Day holiday travel is typically defined as running Thursday through Monday.
