This change of Mississippi's flag is not erasing history.
It's finally removing a shameful tribute to hate, white supremacy, and racism.
Perhaps there's hope for America after all.

But the link says they may add some god thing to their flag.
Oh well, two steps forward, one step back. :blackeye:

Let's see, when was the Emancipation Proclamation? Oh yeah,1863
2020-1863 = 157
157 + 2020 = 2177

So, maybe in 2177 Mississippi will stop using their flag to promote the idea that so-called their heaven-bound tax payers are superior to their so-called hell-bound tax payers.

I agree with you that God does not belong in the government. However, "In God We Trust" is on our coins and all men "are endowed by their Creator", which assumes that they had one and that His name should be capitalized was in The Declaration of Independence. In other words, this has been here since the foundation of our country.

So was slavery. I do not disagree that some things should change. I am only saying that this may not be a step back, but simply not another step forward yet.

@AGBF Ima proponent of getting god out of EVERYTHING to do with government and business I'm also in favor of 'religous whatever' paying taxes.

I recognize that my belief is unpopular and hurtful to many 'believers' and that's okay, to many a supernatural being gives one solace and comfort, ME? I was ravaged by religious nutcases and just regular schizo's in the church. I see a place for supernatural beings in one's life but not in government or business, just because a religious person has a hate on Gay's does not mean they should be allowed to discriminate. Business is Business, Religion is Religion and is personal.

I think Mississippi is only contemplating changing their flag because of sports, not because they want to but because they will lose money, which inherently is not bad, just not good :)

I'm all in favor of anything that helps a person get by in life and religion is a cheap therapy for many and it's fine with me, just don't ask me to pay for it with tax money. To me, religion is a business, a big business, it helps and I am glad for all who get a good vibe from it, but I also get a good vibe from going to a gym and I don't expect taxpayers to pay my way.

Science rules for me - it is comforting to me.

ETA: which means even though it says God in old documents it does not mean the same today, separation of church and state.

Peace.

Yeah, hard to applaud something so long, long overdue.
