I tried to go about this in a clever and creative way, but school has sucked the creative juices outta me! So here's my story, in boring old fashioned form!

I was born in Arizona but have no recollection of living there. I was raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles by two of the most amazing people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I am the second of two children, my sister is two years older and 40 years wiser than me. We both attended private (Catholic) schools and religion was a very large part of my upbringing. My parents moved to the Sacramento area when I was 18 and I stayed behind because I was in love. Graduating from college became more attractive than the guy (and his family

) so I followed my parents up to Northern California about a year later and stayed a lot longer than I intended. During college I held jobs in both libraries and a hospital lab, loved them both. Met another (wrong) guy, got engaged, graduated from college, called off the wedding with a few months to spare.

Went to work for one not so interesting company that dealt in human resources and than another that dealt in public affairs and was very interesting. In the meantime my parents moved back to Southern California and I moved into a house with two other girls (still in Northern California). Met my landlord, who lived in San Diego, heart went swoon. I moved out of the house -- roomate drama -- into my first big girl apartment. Loved apartment and continued to swoon over the former landlord. He swept me off my feet by whisking me away to Chicago for my birthday. We dated long distance for a little over a year, decided it was time to see if we liked each other when life involved more than vacationing together so I packed up and moved to San Diego.

Went to work in the HR department of a real estate company, hated it. Continued to like former landlord, even when we were doing dishes and dealing with his sick (Alzheimer's) mom. So we decided to get married. Found pricescope while looking for engagement ring settings. Planned a wedding and returned to school at landlord turned fiance's encouragement. Lost my MIL (one of the saddest and most profound days of my life). Began substitute teaching and realized I'd found my calling.

And that's where the story ends. For now...

I admire my parents. My dad for being the epitomy of a real man. He knew when to be strong and stern with me and when I needed to have him just hold my hand and help me through. And my mom for raising two girls on her own in a lot of ways. My dad has always worked odd hours, swing shifts and overtime, she was alone with us 90% of time and managed not to kill us. I admire John''s mom. She was so before her time...just a strong, independent capable woman. And she taught her son how to deal with me without even knowing it just by being her (I''m quite headstrong). I admire Maya Angelo for her writing abillities, her amazing speaking voice (it''s intoxicating) and her peacefulness. One of my best friends who had a heart transplant at the age of 17. And of course, John. He is the most thoughtful, considerate person. Today I got caught up in a parent/teacher meeting at school and there was a fire nearby that I didn''t even see. I walked out to my car and he was parked next to it; he was concerned that the fire was so close and something might have happened and dropped everything to come make sure I was okay.

I told the DH story above.

We love to just hang out by the beach, walk around all of our amazing little enclaves (La Jolla, Coranado, etc.) go to the theatre (we have season tickets to The Old Globe). Without a doubt Nine-Ten is my favorite restaurant here. Amazing, fresh foods in a beautiful old hotel in La Jolla. The food is outstanding.

I don''t have any more pictures. I''m not so great about using the camera on vacation. I love to look at them later, but sometimes it feels like the camera interrupts just being in the moment while on a trip.

I''ve been to the zoo once since we moved here, we both prefer the Lincoln Park Zoo to our own. It''s so expensive (and LPZ is free!). We go to the zoo in every city we travel to though, so it''s funny you ask.

And, I haven''t been to Seaworld since I was 5. We''ve passed it on several occasions, does that count?

Kimberly, so good to hear your story! Next time you visit Chicago, you and John will have to "branch out" a bit and come visit the Brookfield Zoo, it is in our suburb and is world-renowned. The gorilla house is absolutely amazing, and the whole zoo is huge and beautiful as well. You''d love it. LPZ is great also, I''ve only been there once but I loved it!

Your husband, parents, and late MIL sound wonderful, no wonder you''re such a great person, you had a fantastic upbringing!

What else do you like to do besides vacationing/reading/dining out? Any fun hobbies besides bling-loving?

Kimberly, what an amazing life you''ve led so far. Your parents sound marvelous and of course they helped make you the thoughtful and caring person you are today. John sounds so amazing and I think it is so wonderful he worries about you to come check on you. That is really neat. It''s nice to see you and John like to spend so much quality time together. I am sure you are a wonderful teacher. It sounds like that job was just waiting for you to find it.

Monnie, we''ll put Brookfield on our list of things to do! I''m sure we''ll be in Chicago sooner rathwer than later. Aside from reading and traveling I love to cook/bake, go to the theatre and exercise.

Marcy, John and I are lucky to get to spend as much time together as we do. Thanks for your kind words.

Harriet, Avenue Q was hysterical. And I am lucky to live in San Diego. We''re in the suburbs now, but looking to buy a house closer to the city (in the city actually). We''re going to put our house on the market sometime this summer. Should be an adventure. This will be my 6th move in 5 years so I''m hoping the next place becomes home for a long time.

We did the trolley ride; we also had a car so we went to Coronado lots! I love Coronado! That is neat you go to different zoo's! Have fun house hunting!

Hey Skip,

John makes the most delicious enchiladas and pesto. He''s great with the grill too. He is Italian and learned to cook from his aunt (lucky me!) so he can make everything from pizza to pasta to delicious BBQ.

I like most every beach, but I La Jolla Cove because I like to visit the seals and it''s down the street from our favorite restaurant.

The flower fields in Carlsbad are beautiful. There is so much to see and do in San Diego, it''s a great city to live in.

I''m looking forward to moving. I''m ready to be settled but a bit leary about how much sq. footage we''ll be losing. It''s going to be quite different for us.

What''s your favorite thing to eat?

I''ve misplaced the disk that has all my pictures saved to it. When I find it I''ll post a few.

I heard it is really dry out in San Diego. I hope you get rain soon!!! I loved your story about the heart shaped locket your father gave you; it brought a tear to my eye. You sound like such a lovely caring person that would be someones friend forever.

My weakness is baked goods, breads and pasta so I try to stay away from that stuff. My hubby taught me how to cook. When I first got married I only would make lasagna and baked goods. He taught me to grill, cook chicken and steak. His mother loved cooking and taught him. My parents are good cooks so I never thought I needed to learn. Tell me about your nephew???. Do you have siblings? I think you said a sister? Are you the baby?

Skippy, it''s been REALLY dry here, especially inland, where we live. We have 2+ acres and our yard looks terrible! It''s a work in progress, but oh my! One of the benefits of moving is that we''ll have a much smaller yard to contend with. Yay for small water bills!

My dad is an amazing man. He''s got a great sense of humor and is so patient and kind. He never says a bad thing about anyone, it''s fantastic. When I grow up I want to be like him. I''m so excited for him, actually, because he just got word that he''s been hired for a different position at work and for the first time in 30 years he''ll have normal hours. He''s always worked swing and graveyard shifts with rotating days off and it''s been hard on him healthwise, so this is just awesome news.

Do you and DH share the cooking in your house? What''s your favorite at-home activity? My mom hates to cook. She has this stenciled over the windows in her kitchen: It''s dinnertime...get in the car!

I have an older sister, a BIL and of course my little nephew, William. I wish I could post pictures but I wouldn''t want to make my sister uncomfortable. He is the most adorable little guy. He loves animals/the zoo and trains. He lives too far away, up in the San Jose area, and I miss him like crazy for months at a time...and when I get to see him I just can''t get enough. He''s 19 months, so there isn''t much to tell...his best trick is making silly sounds with his mouth and the last time I saw him, about a month ago, we were practicing summersalts on the lawn. He''s almost as a good as I am now! Oh, and he loves his red Radio Flyer wagon.

My husband use to cook all the time. Now that I am home I cook at home, but he is the better cook for sure! I am good at making pizza so he nicknamed me the "Pizza Queen." He is a sweet man! He was very close to his mom; they use to cook together and have cooking contests. In fact the last time I saw her there was a cooking contest between my BIL and myself and I was voted best pizza which of course made me happy and the nephews kept asking for my pizza so I loved that!!!

I love my sisters baby. He is the same age as your nephew!!! Today she invited me and hubby to the baby waterpark and we watched him run through the water and ate lunch. It was cute; he does not talk much. He loves to say phone so I made my cell phone ring so he would say phone. He is a happy go lucky kid which is great! I love to pinch his chubby little chipmunk checks!

He loves for me to chase him; of course he is super slow so it isn''t hard and it makes him giggle up a storm which is super adorable!!!! I love his little laugh.

Oh, I can''t post pics of the kids either. My SIL said it was okay to post the surf pics because you can''t see faces. I undertand that one for sure.

I love your moms Stencil; that is so funny. Wow, 2 acres is a lot of yard!!! It will be fun for you to be closer to the action and of course easier upkeep of the yard! Yards can be a lot of work. When I was in SD, I fell in love w/Pointe Loma and wouldn''t mind living in one of those charming homes close to the action and the ocean.

Does your nephew live near by? How often do you see him? When do you get to start teaching school? Thanks for sharing; you are a wonderful person!!

The Pizza Queen?! When can I come over for dinner?

Point Loma is one of the places we''re looking to buy. We found a great house with an awesome foundation/structure that needs some TLC, it''s on our top 4 list.
2 acres is a lot to handle. We have lots of avacado trees, which is great for guacamole but the former owner didn''t keep them up so we haven''t had any produce this year, which sucks.

My mom is quite the character, the stencil is fitting!

My nephew lives up near Mara, it''s an 8 hour drive/1.5 hour plane ride. I see him every month or two. I''ve made tentative arrangements to babysit for a few nights in September so my sister and her husband can go on a trip together, alone.

I will finish up the content portion of my program in November, have a month break and then student teach for 12 weeks starting in January. I graduate at the end of April and then have to request my credential. There are some complicated details that are boring enough to not be explained, but I should be ready to teach in my own room by the fall of 2008.

Oh my goodness, if I had kid(s) you could babysit anytime! I had a dream I was pregnant last night. I was having stomach problems and went to the MD and they did an ultrasound and clear as day a baby appeared on the screen. I was devestated (I''m so not ready to be a Mom!) and then angry because the first thing the tech said was "It''s a girl!" while I was screaming "Wait, I don''t want to know the sex!" I told DH this morning and he was like "What a nightmare, but at least it was a girl!" What a goof! He refers to our future child(ren) as "she" even though we haven''t decided whether or not we want kids.

We''re also looking at North Park (a gentrifying neighborhood near Balboa Park) and Mission Hills (above Old Town).

I''m a picky eater too! There''s nothing wrong with that. J hates anything w/ cream: sour cream, cream cheese, etc. He also hates mayo and anything ranch. Too funny.

I''m doing fantastic, thanks for asking. I''m student teaching in 5th grade for three months. My last day of student teaching is June 3rd, I only have to do one session, and the two seminars that are paired with it, and will be officially done with school on June 16. I''m toying with what I''m going to do this summer. I can work for my district''s summer school program, but it''s only part time and I think I should be making some money after all of this time of not being paid so I may temp for the summer and return to subbing in the fall (the budget crisis in CA means no teaching jobs in the near future).

It is that time of year, I''m not sure we''ll go again, but we''ll certainly drive by all those beautiful flowers.

Hmmm, Chicago, my favorite place.

Things to do: If you enjoy the theatre, I''d highly recommend seeing a play at The Goodman http://www.goodmantheatre.org/ it''s amazing. The Lincoln Park Zoo www.lpzoo.com is a great way to spend an afternoon, and it''s free! I''d also take the time to go to either The Shedd Aquarium www.sheddaquarium.org The Art Institute www.artic.edu and/or The Field Museum www.fieldmuseum.org depending on your and your husband''s interests.

Restaurants: John and I both love Harry Caray''s www.harrycarays.com on Kinzie in River North (it''s where we got engaged), it''s an old school steakhouse with a baseball theme owned by HC''s family. Custom House in the South Loop http://www.customhouse.cc/ Shaw'' Crab House http://www.shawscrabhouse.com/ in River North is so yummy. Salpicon in Old Town http://www.salpicon.com/ absolutely delicious food, service wasn''t great when we went but the food more than made up for it. There are lots of Giordano''s, some are always packed, others you can get a table no problem. They make a great stuffed pizza, it''s FILLING! Also, Pizzeria Uno and Pizzeria Due are good. For breakfast check out The Original Pancake house at 22 Bellvue Place. It''s a tight squeeze, but a great breakfast and the surrounding neighborhood is a great place to take a Skippy and work off some of that food.

I could go on and on, but I think I''ve bombarded you enough!

One more thing, I''d recommend you go to The Drake for an after dinner drink at Coq d'' Or. The Drake is amazing and the bar (Coq d'' Or) has jazz some nights (I can''t remember when off the top of my head) and it''s just a really great experience.

Skip, I was going to come back and tell you the boat tour around the city is a ton of fun. We went on the architectural boat tour and it was so interesting.

I''ve never been to Gino''s and while I love pizza I''m no connoisseur so I''d take Monnie''s recommendation.

There is so much to do there, which is why we keep going back. There''s also a garden in a suburb of Chicago that is expansive and amazing, but the name is escaping me. It borders a state or national park and it is just beautiful, we went in the winter and really enjoyed it so I can only imagine what it''s like in the spring.

Thanks for crossing your fingers for me. I really enjoy substituting and am content continuing to do so. Things will fall into place when they''re supposed to, so I''m not worried about it.
