Keppi Ideal Proportions?

Has anyone heard of a round brilliant diamond having "Keppi Ideal Proportions"? I am home at my parents house and was talking with my mom about her diamond that my dad got her in 1989 and she pulled out the appraisal from when it was purchased, I don''t think they have an official cert (at least they can''t find it). On the appraisal it lists the diamond as a 1.66ct. Round Brilliant cut diamond then it says "Make - Keppi Ideal Proporations" for the cut. I searched the forums as well as google as a whole and can''t find a single thing on a "Keppi" cut or proportions. Does anyone have any idea what that is?

I am trying to explain to them the differences between cuts and they have stumped me on theirs

It was done by the jewler who my Dad bought the ring from in 1989 - Molenaars Jewelers in Boise Idaho. Yes, I double checked it, Keppi Ideal Porporations is exactly what it says. I have found absolutly nothing on the web about Keppi.

Would there be some sort of cut or ideal porportions that sounds like Keppi?

yes, there would be something like it.

i think the jeweler was likely referring to ''kappi'' as in lazare kaplan.

Belle, Thank you for letting me know they probably meant Kappi, but I did a search for Kappi on PS as well as google and nothing comes up. Do you know anything about a Kappi ideal proportion cut?

It rings a bell - but I may be thinking of Eppler, a German gemologist, and his contributions are pretty old. He published a set of "ideal" proportions almost eighty years ago. It was very crown-heavy, as most Euro styles were, and is not anywhere near Tolkowsky in terms of that term today. Some years later Eppler did revise his optimal proportions to more closely resemble the American ideal, but called this set "practical fine cut."

John, thank you for the info! I don''t have any experience with Old World Cuts so I don''t know what they look like but briefly looking at the stone last night I did see what looked like an arrow or two, I don''t know if OWC have that feature or not but it sounds like it would be closer to an ideal Tolkowsky cut from the 80''s, so not modern but hopefully still good. I am going to try to see if it has the laser inscribed girdle that the Lazare website states has been on every one of their diamonds since 1985.

Actually I believe the full name is Keppi Keiger and happens to be one of the finest cutting houses (to my knowledge) so Keppi would actually be correct. Lazare Kaplan is a more popular name but the 2 are not to be confused. I've seen firescope images of Keppi's diamonds before and they looked real sweet from what I can recall.

After looking at their site a bit this is a supplier, not a retailer. I have seen them at trade shows as KK. As Rhino says, good quality products.

Everyone, thank you for the help! I actually just got off the phone with the person who appraised the diamond almost 20 years ago and they told me the same thing, it is the supplier of the diamond, looks like you guys beat me to the post, thank you very much for the info.

Rhino, it is also great to hear that they do have high quality products so if it was a Keppie ideal cut I would assume it is a great diamond! Thank you for the background!
