kenny is this for you?

yes, the euro-shank flat band will make it a real art piece as it is a design of wearable art.

Thank you Mike. I don't think is is easy to see in the small sketch, but The lever on the left between the outer ring and the post goes down to a lens (to be made of topaz). The lever it attached to an arm (there is one from each of the outer joints) at the end of the arms is double bezel like ring that retains the lens. In the down position the lens nests inside the parabolic reflector. The diamond is located at the focus of the paraboloid. Pressing down on the lever swings the lens up for viewing the 3 mm diamond.

Of course it is not practical.
That is not really a criterion for me, ever really. It is not a ring for wearing while gardening. or even something you could put a jacket on over. But if you are lost in the desert in Nevada and need to send and receive messages to/from your alien mothership across the universe and then open a wormhole in the continuum you'd be wanting this.

Thanks for the suggestion about the flat base Mike, I will incorporate that in my plan.

No problem, it really is going to be an interesting piece.
I enjoy your point of view, not all jewelry has to be worn daily and be practical, it can just be about having a beautiful/artistic object.

It's funny I too was thinking this looked like an alien computer chip that fell of the spacecraft when they were here building the pyramids, once you've finished you will either be able to call them back to earth or you might have built a death ray ring.

I was thinking for me personally a big chunky squared euroshank might look a little heavy compared to the top of the ring, I personally think having a regular round band would work best with the circles in the top of the ring. I would look at adding some large beads (or another applied detail) to the back of the band to get the same affect as a euro shank, I think the beads would look great with your design and work sort of like a ball foot on an old piece of furniture.

Vapid, to make that work, you know you'd need at least two of them.

Honestly, weren't you at the briefing?

:D
Actually, I think it would be cooler as a pendant.

Definitely like Mike's idea of making it freestanding.

VL what are you in the middle of that you can't drop immediately and get on with this? We want to see this work of art finished - with step by step pics of course ;))
