First, I just want to say how glad I am to have found this website. It sure has made me re-think some things and made me more confident in my search for an engagement ring. Now, onto my question.
I currently live in Chattanooga, TN, and seeing as how I haven't lived here my whole life, I didn't really know where to begin to find an engagement ring. I asked around, and was directed by many places (friends, internet reviews, and even the newspaper) to go to Kennedy Jewelery.
So, I guess the first part of my question is if anyone has even heard of it, or has any comments about the place.
The second part of my question is involving an actual loose diamond I looked at. It is 1.01 ct princess cut, E, SI1, with GIA certifications. Kennedy Jewelry is saying they will give it to me for $5,134.75 including the mounting (or setting?), ring sizing, and tax. This was after an applied discount (the store owner and I are alumni of the same school) from a listed price of $9,432. I feel kind of stupid now, but I probably should've asked about a return and upgrade policy.
So far, in my research, I haven't seen any 1.01 ct princess cut, E, SI1 diamonds anywhere near that listing price. Although, some seem to come close and even exceed the discounted price, given higher quality cut and other factors. So, does it seem like a good buy?
I will try to receive a copy of the GIA report and call them to find out about the return/upgrade policy and post that information whenever I can.
Thanks in advance for your responses.
Edit: And, oh... does it seem like overkill to get an E for a 1.01 ct diamond? Obviously, I want the best for my lady, but am I paying for something she can't even see anyways.
