Hello. I have recently purchased a K/L OEC and want to get a u-prong band from IDJ. They only stock F/G stones. I'm looking at 15 pointers. Do you think the color difference will be too great? I also asked about the pricescope quality.

My stone faces up pretty white. But does tend to take on a creamy color in certain lights.

Thoughts?

Here are a few pics of my ring

I have both (mid coloured OECs and much whiter bands) and I don't like them together but colour choices are very personal and subjective you will have some people say they don't mind them next to each other and other people like me who don't like it that much.

I think that's too much of a spread if you dont want it to be noticeable. I think you need to take your ering and go visit some
stores that have F/G eternity rings. It may or may not bother you. I think it would bother me.

Edit - your ring is very pretty!

Hi OP, I remember your earlier post on purchasing this ring, did you end up paying what you wanted? Or closer to the asking, or a compromise in the middle? How did the color appraise, what you thought? It looks lovely on your hand. I hope you are thrilled! You said you might change the setting of your big ring, so I'd wait till you know exactly what you want for your solitaire. Unless, of course you would wear the eternity band as a RHR when that happens.

I'm actually getting my appraisal today. Hoping everything pans out. I have 10 days to return if it doesn't.

Yes, I got it for $7,500 and couldn't be more thrilled - pending today's appraisal outcome of course!!

I actually like this simple setting so much I'm thinking I'll keep it. Wanted to do a nice thick eternity band with since the ering band is so thin. Its about 1-1/2mm.

The u prong I'm looking at will be about 3.4mm finished. I could also do 10 pointers and that would be 3mm.

The plain band I have on now is about 4mm.

What do you all think about getting "I" colored stones? Would that be better?

What color are the melee stones in your setting?
Does that contrast bother you?
(I agree w/ the above that it's completely subjective. I like either high contrast, or essentially matching. The in-between looks off to my eye.)

"I" colored stones should not show a big difference.

I have a D colored ering with a 5 stone wedding band (16 pointers). The wedding band is F/G. I can tell the difference but
I dont think anyone else can unless they are really looking hard at the colors.

I think the plain band in the pictures really shows off the warmth of the diamond especially the second picture. Which looks really pretty. Not sure my point but thought I would just point that out. Sorry, no help.
Do you like the color of the stones on the band with your center stone?
My H/I nine stone band are just a slight yellow at times and just certain light conditions, mostly at the grocery store. I think they would match nicely, and not be to white.
Your ring is very pretty!!

Beautiful diamond and setting. I actually like this current set with the 4 mm band.

As for colour contrast: that's very personal, but I think you will be safe with 'i'. What is the colour of the stones in this setting?

Will it turns out the setting isn't structurally sound to safely support the 1.9 stone. Looks like I'm going to have to get it reset. I'm so sad. No idea where to begin. :(( :(( :((

Hi OP, I'm sorry you are sad. I wish it had turned out differently. You can continue with the sale and do a reset, but you could also stop now and regroup. At least give it a couple days to see how you feel. Maybe ask for a reduction since you must reset, setting unsafe.

Other than the setting, how did the appraisal go? Was it the color and clarity the seller claimed?
I wanted to answer your original question. I've had a few OEC's and I found they worked best with single cut stones. For me, the color difference was really too striking, and the cuts as well.

I agree. I do not care for the color difference b/w the old cut stone and the other diamonds. I also think single cut works best with OEC's. But it is personal preference and you should go with what you love. Some enjoy that contrast and highlighting their stone's warmth.

The stone is simply lovely and an ideal size. It would greatly benefit from a new mount, more in tune with the period of the stone, or something simple that allows the stone to take center stage. If the stone checks out with your appraiser, I would just pass on the setting, and ask your seller to reduce the price to reflect the purchase of the diamond, alone.

I love your threads-- they highlight the value/savings inherent to a pre-loved piece. Your fearless approach may have landed you a great find. Good luck- I hope it works out!

Thanks everyone!!

So the appraisal went well in terms of the value of the stone. It rated:

J/K in color (was listed as K/L)

SI1 in clarity (was listed at VS) - the appraiser was a GIA grad and said her rating was based on an indented natural close to the girdle which she showed me under the loupe and I actually thought it was kind of beautiful because it was a natural part of the stone that didn't get polished away. Other inclusions were a couple feathers and that was it! None of which can be seen to the naked eye and were pretty hard for me to see with the loupe.

1.90 in size (was listed at 1.91)

The setting rated brand new but they said it really shouldn't set a diamond larger than 1 carat.

The whole thing appraised for $6k more than the seller's appraisal and $14k more than I paid. The seller agreed to reduce the price a bit...SO I BOUGHT IT!! :appl: :appl: :appl:

So I have to say - that thing that everyone said you would feel when you saw "your" diamond was true. I just had a feeling about this stone and loved it from the moment I saw it! So now I'm going to try and figure out a setting. Will probably create a new thread for ideas.
