That''s fabulous news!!!! And as an Aussie, I have to ask, which is your favorite restaurant?!

honey! i didnt know you were australian! hallo aussie - oi oi oi!

my favorite restaurant is the Bon Ton in Leura. superlative food, wonderful ambiance - just perfect. we''ll sit outside under the trees and the fairy lights, with the fountain bubbling and music playing, and at that time of year there will almost certainly be warm, balmy breezes blowing, and we''ll watch the sun go down and it''ll just be....

bliss. :)

That is such nice news! I am also an Aussie and love Cafe Bon Ton in Leura, I literally went there last weekend for lunch. Had an unreal beef shank pie and this amazing cake for desert, so much meringue and chocolate it was so delicious!

Smo! no way!!

what were you doing in leura? i lived in glenbrook, prior to moving to the UK, then the US. and i know EXACTLY the cake you''re referring to - YUMHO!

the bon ton at night is one of the few truly romantic places in the world for dinner - i love it. just love it. :)
Just a day trip from Sydney! I thought my partner was going to explode with happiness eating that cake! It was hilarious!

Have you been to Silks in Leura? It is a toss up between which I restaurant like more, probably Bon Ton for the atmosphere and cake!

Also, I love the moontree candle shop, I always stock up bigtime. We sometimes will go for afternoon tea at Lillianfels, gotta love their high tea and the sitting room area is wonderful. We stayed a few times and I spent hours in those big comfy couches reading and enjoying the fireplace (and snacks!).

p.s. have you been to fairfax and roberts whilst in Sydney? I have been meaning to find out if anyone on PS who has visited Sydney has been? There current window display is so pretty!

YAY WHITBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi smo :)

i''m sorry i didnt respond to this earlier.

i went to the bon ton for lunch last friday and thought of you! i looked at the cake you were referring to (chocolate meringue Concord cake) and chuckled :) i''ve booked tim and i in for valentine''s day this coming sunday and am really looking forward to it. i''ve been to lilianfels for high tea too - what a beautiful place! i love their lounge room. very elegant.

i cant say i''ve been to fairfax and roberts - where is it? i''ll be in the city all of next week, so will have the opportunity to have a wander around; i might go take a look! if i get there, i''ll let you know what i think. where do you live, by the way? which suburb? i''ve lived all over sydney, but if i ever returned home, would love to live in surrey hills. we once almost bought a converted loft there, but moved to mosman instead. i think surrey hills would have been the better option...

and bliss - thank you! :) 4 days till he gets here - i absolutely can''t wait!

I totally missed this thread before but this is the sweetest thing! I''m so glad you''ll get to spend VDay with your love in your favorite place.

Hi Whitby! lucky you! That''s the one! You guys are going to have such a lovely day together. I hope the weather is perfect and not the crazy rain we have been having this week!

OMG! You have to go to F&R this week, it is on the corner of Martin Place and Castlereagh Street diagonally opposite Tiffanys. AMAZING JEWELLERY! That is all I will say! You will die when you see the beautiful window displays! If you are getting the train and can get off at Martin Place, then it is a 2 minute walk from there.

Also, make sure you check out Martin & Stein Antique jewellery in the Queen Victoria Building (it is on the Grand Walk Level, right by the esclators). You won''t be sorry!

I love Surry Hills, we are actually looking to buy a terrace there at the moment! Right now we live in Wollstonecraft and just sold our apartment in Mosman late last year! I much prefer Surry Hills, way more my style but my partner grew up in Mosman so that''s why we bought there. I also really like Chippendale, Potts Point and Darlington. I am really looking forward to moving to the other side of the bridge. I think Surry Hills (and surrounding areas) are great in terms of lifestyle (great shops, cafes and restuarants, plus I love the markets, Bills and sparkle cupcakes) and closeness to the city. Chippendale and Darlington are also great areas (close the Surry Hills) but more affordable as they are not quite gentrified in the way that Surry Hills is.

Where are you staying at the moment?

hi smo :)

i'm currently staying with a friend in glenbrook - a huge cry from New York. everything closes on the weekend by 3, or 4 at the latest. sends me a bit bonkers.

very beautiful tho, and the people are just wonderful :)

i'll see if ican get out to some jewelry stores while here - and will definitely check out some antique stores if i can. these tend to be a bit of a problem tho; i never seem to walk out empty handed. *not* good.

i think wollstonecraft is a lovely area. i liked mosman, but found it a bit...i dont know - everyone seemed to have views on how each other should live. we owned a lovely apartment which was part of one of the original houses designed by thomas muston. but as such, it was declared by the national trust, and we had the devil of a time ever making *any* changes to it. before that, we'd lived in a nice sized end-terrace in lilyfield, which i absolutely loved.

surry hills is great, isnt it? pls excuse my 'surrey's - i used to live in surrey in england and it just sort of all bleeds together after a while; it's been 10 years since i lived in australia. what do you think of paddington? i like that area also - definitely an inner city village - a little like the small pockets you find in NYC.

Glad you are enjoying your time in Oz Whitby.

i''m having a *great* time - thank you softly!

:)

Glenbrook is beautiful, but I know what you mean about going a bit bonkers after a while. My partner and I have spoken about having a holiday house in the Blue Mountains to escape to on weekends but I definitely couldn''t live there full time! The commute alone would kill me!

I hope you get to check out the jewellery stores and I do know what you mean about antique stores. I always try to buy an antique tea cup so at least that is just something little and I don''t come away empty handed!

I do know exactly what you mean about Mosman! Sounds like you had a beautiful apartment. Have you been back on this trip? It has changed so much in the last couple of years and my partner says he can''t believe how different it is from when he was a kid.

Lilyfield is a gorgeous area, my parents live in the inner west and love it. I think Lilyfield is one of the nicer areas in the inner west as you don''t get all the crazy traffic, terrible parking and tiny streets like you see in Balmain, Birchgrove etc.

Love, love Paddington, but it is crazy expensive house wise. It would definitely be my first choice but we couldn''t afford to live there and live like we do now! And what is the point of being near all those great stores when you can''t afford to buy anything?

Glad to hear you are enjoying Sydney. I am so jealous that you live in New York! It is my favourite city and I don''t get to go often enough! I was there (for work) last year and had the best time! I would move there in a heartbeat.

That made me teary-eyed! I''m so very, very happy for you two! Having done a 5 yr LDR, and having spent many holidays and special days apart, and many weeks, I very much know where you are coming from.

And I don''t know where Tim is working, but I like their style...
