I have the shared-prong wedding set from Signed Pieces, and I just got a bunch of stones tightened because they were loose (it had last been looked at just over a year ago). The jeweler (Dimend Scaasi in Chicago) was super nice, but they told me that they are concerned about the setting because the diamonds are touching and I will most likely have to get it fixed pretty often. I remember that the stones started to get loose about a year after I got the setting, but I ignored it for a while.

I am concerned too because I thought that Signed Pieces had fixed this problem when I got it in Jan of 2006. At least the stone aren''t abrading yet, but they are touching and apparently that''s not good.

Is there anything I can do or anything I should do at this point? Thanks!

Hmmmmmmm ... would you be amenable to having the rings soldered together, or to wearing a thin spacer between them?

Circe, thanks for the suggestion but not really. I would be willing to get a new wedding set and just keep my current wedding band to wear by itself though. I guess that I can''t figure out whether the bands are okay, SP screwed up, or I screwed up by not discovering this earlier.

Ok, I have the Signed Pieces Facets Duo 13 stone set. I posted here recently that I ran into issues with mine as well. When I purchased my set in January, we had the center stone set here locally and had the bands soldered together. The local jeweler did a lousy job, so I ended up sending the entire set back to Signed Pieces to have it re-set and re-soldered. When I talked to SP, they asked me why I had them soldered to begin with and told me there should be no issues with wearing the bands together and there should be no problems with the diamonds chipping. The sales person convinced me that I would be happier and have more options if I left the bands unsoldered.

By the time I got the rings back, it was early March. Just a couple of weeks ago I noticed one of my prongs was loose. I took the ring to a different local jeweler, and as soon as they put it under the microscope they called me over and showed me several shipped diamonds that they said were caused by wearing the bands together and the diamonds rubbing against one another. I was pretty upset, as I had asked SP about this very issue and they assured me it would not be a problem. Had I know this would happen, I would have left them soldered together.

I immediately contacted Signed Pieces and they assured me they would take care of the chipped diamonds. They apologized and said they had sold hundreds, if not thousands of these sets and they had never had one complaint of diamonds chipping when the bands were worn together.

My rings are currently at SP being repaired. I requested to have them soldered together again as well. The have repeatedly expressed to me that my satisfaction is their goal. I am not upset with SP as I think they are a class act with AWESOME customer service and gorgeous jewelry. I would not hesitate to do business with them again and I would definitely recommend them to others. My only regret is that I did not follow my own instincts and leave the bands soldered together in the beginning.

So, my advice to you or anyone with ANY shared prong set - SOLDER the bands together!!!

I agree, they have great customer service.

Thanks everyone! So what do you think my next step should be? I just got my ring back from repair and they said that luckily no stones are abraded or chipped. The main problem they expect is frequent loosening of stones. Should I just wait until there is some type of bigger problem, if one comes up? I don''t want to get my rings soldered (just don''t like the look and I like to wear my wedding ring separately sometimes). Thanks so much!

JMHO, if you''re not willing to get them soldered, then I wouldn''t wear them together unless you have a decent spacer band...
