I would like for some of you old diamond gurus to chime in please. I just won this auction and I think I did very good if it is as described. I looked up comps before making my max bid. It had a buy it now price of $4200.00. JBEG has a .97 H VS2 for $5,775.00. What do you all think?

Now to find a matching stone. Dreamer_D what about yours :Up_to_something:

If it's as described you did good. And even if it's warmer. Which it will be. I think as long as it's around a K-L you'll be okay.

I am hoping it's at least an I-J.

Sorry I can't give any real feedback, but after my own intense experience with OMCs this weekend, all I can say is -- it's very, very pretty! Looks great.

Doesn't this look like an OEC rather than an OMC? The seller says is has a spread of 7mm which is quite spready for the weight isn't it?

That's an OEC for sure and it looks really white in the photos. If it is truly a 7 mm spread, I wonder if the ct weight is higher. The diamond doesn't look shallow at all. You may even have a bigger winner here!

The spread is a big question mark for me too. Fingers SUPER crossed for you that the spread is correct. I can't wait till you get it.

Hmmm up close I can see a few spots on the girdle that I'd check out, but it's a pretty stone. Looks clean!

I note that as well. The seller says the item can be returned if not as described. I hope it's nothing bad. It's supposedly a VS2 so if it is, I don't see the girdle issue being a big thing?

Looks like a great stone - it has a very balanced facet pattern and a lg to med culet. I see the kozibe effect in there (sp??? I always mess that word up!) and it is warm but not YELLOW.

I think you did great Bright Ice! The price seems awesome for what you are getting, too - excited to get your thoughts when you finally meet the stone....

I really like the OEC, and it looks like you got a good price.

I do think it is warmer than stated, obviously, I thinking maybe J-K. But like Enerchi said, it is definitely not yellow. I will keep my fingers crossed that the spread is as stated, if so, you got a great deal!

Are you thinking of trying to find a match and do earrings? That would be a great size!

Yes, that's what I am hoping for!

Yes! I hope you are able to find a match. That is partly for selfish reasons, so I can drool over them...I am using PS to tide me over until I accumulate the funds for my own.

From the photos and the look of the depth and its weight, which is a known commodity I assume, there is not way in heck it is 7mm spread. I would bet it is closer 6.3mm. It looks really good, and how the heck did I miss it on ebay?? haha

I think it looks really pretty!

I was looking at that one too. Great buy if it turns out as nice as the photos! Hopefully it will be even better in person!

I think the girdle looks good in most pictures, especially for earrings. And it can be a VS2 with nicks in the girdle. My 70 point J VS1 from GIA has a few nicks of the girdle, they are the grade making inclusions, and even then are only warranting a VS1 grade.

Lovely and nice price! But they must just be eyeballing the stone next to a ruler to say 7mm because it surely is under 6.4mm if it is a 1 ct. OEC.

agreed! my 1.2 OEC was just 6.5mm

I have not once had an ebay seller be correct about the measurements of a stone using millimeters ;))

There are only 2 that I know of that have the ability. TWO out of thousands of sellers. LOL.

Worked in my favour recently though! Got a few stones that were much bigger than the sellers said!

Really? That's awesome. You are more of a risk taker than I am.

As long as there is a return policy, it's all good to check it out in person!

I also have had a few items be bigger than described, and some smaller. You never know.

I also saw that 1.03 vs 7mm discrepancy... either the stone is going to be heavier than 1.03 or it'll be much smaller than the 7mm, esp if it's an earlier OEC. If it really is 7mm and it weighs more like 1.50c then it's a fantastic price! Good luck BI!

ETA...I actually had another stone I was looking at where the guy said it was .95c and 7mm. I said that can't be right can you measure again and he comes back saying oh yes it's just about 6mm, oops! Hehe.

Update!

I got the stone today. It's very pretty but not everything the seller stated (as usual) :o .

I took it to a jeweler close to me at lunch for a quick inspection. She measured it at 5.80 x 5.50 (very surprised at these numbers, it's got to be more than this) but didn't measure depth (it's not overly deep). It does weigh in at 1.03ct. She looped it and said she didn't see anything. No color verification though.

So, I went to another local jeweler and he wants me to come back tomorrow at lunch and he will give me a complete evaluation including color.

My opinion: it's a late OMC, early OEC because of the measurements. It faces up smaller for it's weight than an OEC of this weight would, the color appears to be I/J/K ? (it's not too tinted). I compared it to a smaller OEC that I just got that was reported to be G/H which I feel is the case (it's pretty white). It has a lovely high crown, beautiful facet pattern with broad flashes of light/color.

I will update after I see the jeweler tomorrow.

I surely wish I had the photography skills that some of you have. They don't compare to Dreamer but it's the best I can do.

I'm so sorry the spread didn't work out. Still, the price is good. But you have to decide what you think of course. It looks lovely. The culet is slightly off center but that's a personal thing.

Posting as a total moron when it comes to recognizing good OEC's ( :loopy: ) --- it sure looks nice! I love the faceting pattern, high crown and smaller table. It looks like a lovely colour to me - warm white, not whellow and it looks like a great size on your hand.

Eager to learn what the second jeweller has to report when you them tomorrow! Are you leaning towards keeping or returning??
