Hi, I just found this site and it has been very informative. I just acquired an 2.72ct round diamond solitare ring (from within family)and am looking for guidance on apprasials. I took it to two jewelers (local) that took one look at it and comented that the cut is over a 100 years old. My concern is if this ring is an OEC or OMC, where can I get a proper apprasial done by someone who recognizes the value in such an old style cut. I''ll try to post a picture soon, having trouble taking a clear shot. I don''t have dimensional data on this yet.
What I do know at this point:
Carat 2.72 (estimated, still in setting)
Cut Round
Clarity SI1
Color M-N, Hard to tell while in gold setting
Culet Small
Any feedback would be appreciated. I plan on removing it from the current setting and having it remounted as an engagement ring. It was suggested that if I go with a yellow gold ring, to use a platinum setting to hold the diamond to "enhance" the warm color of the stone.
