Thanks to everybody for all the help with the diamond education. I feel like I understand way more than most consumers, but still can't really look at a diamonds numbers and get a feel for it.

My current fav. candidate for an engagement ring. Will be a Gelin Abaci tension setting, by the way.

Diamond info from AGS DCD:

Cut Grade: AGS Ideal
Polish: Excellent
Symetry: Excellent
Proportions: Excellent
Color Grade: AGS 1.0 (F)
Clarity Grade: AGS 4 (VS2)
Carat Weight: 1.023
Flourescence: Negligible
Table: 57%
Depth: 61%

Crown angle: 33.8
Pavillion angle: 41
Culet: none
Girdle: 1.2 - 2.3%
Crown Height: 14.5%
Pavillion Depth: 43.3%

HCA Scores:

Light Return: Excellent

Haven't had a chance to look with an idealscope/H&A viewer yet.

I'd love some feedback!

Any thoughts on this stone?

Pfb, the numbers are just great. (love your avatar, btw!)

the numbers are very good, the one thing i would say is that i am not a fan of the crown angle under 34 and the 41 pav angle though at least they correspond nicely, if you are getting dinged on the HCA it's for the 41 pav angle most likely, change that to 40.9 on the HCA and see how it changes the score, it moves it from 1.3 to 1.1 EX and gives the scintillation an EX instead of a VG. tiny pav angle changes can make a difference supposedly. but if the idealscope shows great light return in correspondence with the #'s, then it's not a deal breaker. the idealscope for me is a huge deal buying virtually because it helps put the numbers into perspective as well. anyway i think the stone is a good option to consider. good luck!

You may want to talk to the tension setting folks. It is my understanding that the girdle measurements are important & they like them on the thick side.

I may have missed this information but - is this for you or for your fiancee to be? Have you discussed this setting with her? The reason I ask is that guys love tension settings & gals seem to like something more traditional.

Angles are just fine for that crown angle the pavilion angle is one of the best.
With good optical symmetry and the right lgf% it should be a very very bright stone.
Old school thinking would incorrectly knock it down because of the 41 pavilion but the new research proves that not to be the case.

i agree with F&I with looking into it further on being tension set, i''d send them the cert showing the plot of the stone and make sure they are fine with the location of inclusions and also girdle for tension setting. when i had my husband''s ring made, i made sure to find a stone that was approved for tension setting with no feathers or similar near the girdle that could present a problem.

Thanks for all the feedback on the specs. I'm trying to get my hands on an ideal scope and/or aset scope, and am very anxious to see the light performance and symmetry!

I might even try my hand at taking a few shots through the ideal-scope and get 'em posted here.

As for the tension setting, I borrowed a Gelin Abaci ring from my local B&M dealer, used it for the proposal (yes, by the way

), and let her pick her own setting. She also loved the tension settings and picked this one, but with a polished finish as shown in the second photo. GA custom makes each ring.

I've also had pretty extensive conversations with GA. They certainly left me with the impression that few diamonds are not settable in tension, and likely nothing any pricescoper would buy. They aren't so much interested in girdle thickness or inclusions, but *major* defects that might cause the diamond to cleave or crack under pressure.

Congratulations! That sounds like a very pretty stone and I''d think you''d have no worries with a VS2 anyway!
