JQ,
I was advised to ask you this technical question directly. I have 2 stones to choosefrom:

1. AGS 0cut, 35 crown angle, 40.8 pavillion angle, crown depth 15.9, 54.7 table
2. GIA ideal cut, 35 CA, 40.8 PA, CD 15.5, 56 table, 75% stars

Please help me with 3 questions:

1. Is the first combo really AGS 0?
2. Is the second combo compatible to AGS 0?
3. Which stone would perform better?

Many thanks,

Viphan01

welp I ain''t JQ but....
1: if it has a report from AGS saying it is then it is...
2: could be if it was sent to ags or ran thru the ags software depending on the finish grades and the exact configuration.
3: impossible too say, not enough info.

You were supposed to be somewhat more tactful than that

and there are alot of intelligent people on here, not just JQ, he was just an example. but if your doing it don''t forget to give star numbers and total depth %, girdle and culet info as well.

and remember like strm indicated, AGS0 is AGS0, no question about that.

Viphan,

I think #2 should read 75% lower halves, not stars?

Both appear to be great combinations.Based on the limited info these will be limited answers but I’m happy to intuit what I can…

1.Looks like it.If advertised as AGS0 it should be accompanied by an AGS grading report showing the 0 in light performance. The report will give further useful data like depth, star & lower half % and mm measurements.

2. GIA doesn’t have an ‘ideal’ grade their top is excellent.GIA rounds the numbers on their reports, so CA and PA may differ slightly, but it would still be within the top range and if so, the combo is predicted to earn AGS0.

3. Based on this limited info it’s a tie.Unless the lower halves are far apart (unlikely), those basic numbers describe very similar outlines.

An extremely critical piece of data is mm measurements (I understand if you left it off so as not to ID these stones outright). If you’re taking the next step I suggest you request ideal-scope or ASET images and photos to verify performance and give an idea about cut precision.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for your response. All of the info about these 2 stones are in these 2 links:

I have to make my decision today of which stone to select (I have both on hold). Both seem to be quite compatible. My concern was, which one will perform better. I don''t have a diam. Cal to put in these numbers and see how it comes out but I will try to request an Idealscope before making the decision.

Again, I truly appreciate all of your time.
