I know this post is old, but did you end up going to JE? I have a few hours on my hands today, and I wonder if it''s worth the one hour drive to their store.
I doubt Reena is still interested, but DAGBF, I purchased a custom setting from JE. IMO, they are one of the better stores in the Bay Area. They were smaller when I had my ring made, but I''ve purchased from them in the larger setting, and they were stil top notch.
Reena ended up going with Leon Mege for her beautiful setting. However, IMO, an hours drive is not that bad and I think that a trip would definetly not be a waste of time since you could either 1. find something you like or 2. scratch them off from your list! Either way, you win!
where do you live? i live in los gatos and just checked out joe escobar last week. i''d say it''s worth an hour''s drive, plus if you''re going to come to sj, you could also visit derco at santana row, and maybe even one or two other well-regarded places if you want to make a day of it. derco doesn''t carry too much designer stuff, but they do have a pretty good selection of settings that they make in-house, and prices seem reasonable...escobar has what seems like a very good selection of settings, including a lot of designer stuff, like simon g, michael b, michael bondanza, tacori, jeff cooper, scott kay, etc. i know you already have your stones (congrats, btw!), but for others who might be looking for branded cuts, they carry several of those too (criss-cut, tycoon, & lovefire, from what i could see).
since you''re coming in from out of town, you might want to make an appointment, because all the jewelers up here look very busy right now. (plus traffic''s been terrible near the malls - the economy''s recovering, yay!) good luck!
