There doesn't seem to be any other appropriate thread to put this in but it's way too good not to post!
Rowling's political position has never been a secret. Some of her fans have lashed out at her (via Twitter -- of course -- because that's apparently now The Way to communicate) and she's responded.
This made me scream I laughed to hard:
Critic: "glad I caught this article on yahoo. I will now burn your books and movies too."
Rowling: "Well, the fumes from the DVDs might be toxic and I've still got your money, so by all means borrow my lighter."
I hope the critic on this one has access to a dictionary so she can look up the meaning of "autocrat."
Critic on Twitter: "just burned all my Harry Potter books after begin a fan for 17 years. ... I'm upset it has to be that way. You embarrassed me, disgusted me, and I will never read your work again."
Rowling's response: "Guess it's true what they say: you can lead a girl to books about the rise and fall of an autocrat, but you can't make her think."
And one more with Rowling commenting on people who say they are burning the HP books:
"Actually, we're thinking of selling them in pairs in future; a 'read one, burn one' deal for those who like the magic, but not the morals."
LOVE that woman!
