Have to vent, very very pissed off.

Several months ago we bought my e-ring. Before we took that baby home it was sent the the stores Jewler to be re-shanked. We eventually got it back, and it was put away untill BF proposes (later this year).

Resently we sent it to another jewler (as the last one did a crap job) to have a v-prong added to the pears point. Before we sent it off I noticed a small chip in the round part of the diamond. The Jewler we sent it to just rang to point out the chip before he started work.

I don''t think I did this to the diamond because I haven''t actually worn it more then trying it on in my room. I don''t think it was sold to me chipped, the valuation mentioned nothing nor did the sales assistant. I assume that in the lengthy time that the first jeweler had it he chipped it and decided not to let us know his mistake.

It is not noticable unless you are looking extremely close up or run your finger along the bottem on the stone so I''m not distrught over it and deperate for a new stone. However, I''m EXTREMELY pissed off at this first jewler for not taking responsibility and suggesting a solution, I assume that if he chipped it he''d notice.

There''s really nothing I can do, we had it for months before I noticed and I can''t prove I havn''t done it myself. I''m just really pissed off about it.

Sorry for the rant, but to us this was alot of money and I really love this ring.

I''m rather upset

I''m so sorry to hear this!

Is it insured?

Is there any chance what you feel is a "natural" (look at the inclusion plot for this info) when you run your fingernail along the girdle?

Grrrr... I would be livid! I hope you are able to get this sorted out!!!

Do you have insurance on it? I remember my jewelry insurance agent telling me that was something that would be covered. I''m sorry this happened. It would piss me off too!

I would stop right here before I let the other jeweler do the work. If you have insurance, I''d contact the insurance company regarding replacement or repolishing the stone (if it can be done). I wouldn''t want to have to live with a chip in my stone that wasn''t my fault. I think you should check into it more before you proceed with any more work.

It wasn''t insured at the time because we hadn''t even taken it home from the jewlers yet, they sent it away for work as soon as we had put a deposit on it.

I don''t know what a "natural" is but the new jewler confirmed it was a chip.

I don''t think theres anything I can do, I may get it polished out in future but I don''t see much point because its not actually visible unless your really looking for it. The Jewler only found it because it''s there policy to check stones before they work on them.

The jewler has already completed the work (which looks great) so I think I just have to live with it, there''s really nothing I can do.

Thank you for your support ladies.

I'm sorry that happened. Yuck! Have you considered the possibility that he really might not have known he did it? That might give you peace of mind a little. Either way, it should not have happened.

This is why I strongly dislike trusting people with my stuff. I used to own expensive watches. I never got one back from a warranty fix or minor adjustment that damage had not been caused.

I hope you find a way to forgive him for your own sake! You don't deserve to be upset!
