Hi! Does anyone know of good places to shop in the DC area that have a good selection of antique / estate jewelry? More so in the engagement ring category. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thank you!!
How far are you willing to go outside DC? I'm outside the cty, but still in the 'Metro Area' and Middleburg has a few nice places, like this one: http://www.thoshaysjewelers.com/index.htm, you can have custom work done, like a reproduction, in Hillsboro here: http://www.huntcounty.com, and downtown Leesburg is a haven of antique shopping, several like this one : http://blackshutterantiques.com/ have jewelry, but I don't know how much of it is fine jewelry. All three are about an hour outside the city and smack in the middle of wineries, farmers markets and other fun Saturday drive activities.
Inside the beltway, the only one I know of is http://www.tinyjewelbox.com, so hopefully another PS'er closer in can bolster up the suggestions!
I second Tiny Jewelbox and Hunt Country. Tiny Jewelbox has an excellent selection of antiques, reproductions, and vintage inspired pieces though they are pricey in my opinion. However, they do have a great sale every April. Hunt Country is unparalleled for custom work and colored stones. If you want to browse in a mall type store but higher quality goods than average try Fink's or Lindquist & Becksted (sp?).
Quest seems to have many fans here but in my experience they were incompetent on so many levels despite multiple chances to get things right. They actually destroyed my carefully selected stones and hung bezels backwards on earrings among other things. In fact, the piece they made I'm planning to have dismantled and made into something new (likely by hunt country) just so I can enjoy it without thinking of what a PITA it was to get made.
