Hi, would it be offensive to a jeweler if I wanted to see an ASET image of the diamond I''m interested in? I know that I can see the diamond for myself and in person so would I still be in my best interest to still see one? I''m new to all this so I don''t know if I still should be asking for one. Thanks for your input in advance!

Offensive?
Certainly not!

I think in the past almost all diamond shoppers knew nothing about diamonds and sellers got used to that.
This has to be changing, with the Internet.
I am very curious how often shoppers walk in and ask for IS or ASET images or want to know the crown and pav angles.

You can buy your own ASET scope and bring it in or ask if the jeweler has one.

The ASET reveals a diamond's cut quality and does not hurt or even touch the diamond.
If a jeweler had a problem with me learning about the cut quality of their diamonds I'd walk out, since they probably know their diamond are not cut well.

Apart from Kenny's very last point (I'm more optimistic?), I generally agree.

If a round, an IS may be best. In either case, step by step is your best approach. Ask first (by phone, to save yourself some time). The likelihood is they don't have an IS or ASET. In this case, buy one (above, under "Tools," to "Idealscope.") Either is under $100. If a non round, do get (and/or ask for) the ASET.

Regards,

do most B&M shops have the idealscope and aset equipment or have they not adopted and embrace this type of "technology" yet?

Most do not. With regards to why, Neil has a good list of explanation why it is so in the sticky thread above on the Beta Diamond Video.
