So at my work we have a new guy. He says his wife is a jeweler and his mother in law is a "master jeweler". Well I thought "cool someone to talk" to but boy, was I wrong.

My first encounter was when a friend of mine was looking for an e ring. His gf at the time needed the most blingy thing imaginable. She wanted a double halo. Well this guy overheard and started making blunt comments about them being "tacky" and "ugly". Its like, the girl really knew what she wanted, and he's got this boyfriend rethinking the idea of getting her what she wants based off this guy.

My next encounter was during some "team building" group stuff. I'm not too good at things like that so when it got to me with the question " what do you day dream about" I said "diamonds, having some in every shape and color." Mostly just as filler (we all had to say something) and as I'm saying that the guy interrupts and says "you know brown diamonds are the WORST! they only try and sell those to people to trick them......". I'm thinking, again, no need to be rude. And brown sent inherently the worst, some people like them, its an opinion. PLUS I didn't say anything about brown diamonds I was just trying to make stupid work small talk!!


What annoyed me the worst though, I was talking to my supervisor and friend about my new wedding band, said I was excited because sense it had all three colors I could show my FI each one and he could see that yellow looked best with his skin tone.
Well we were having this conversation ourselves and he pops in "thats stupid! Yellow, rose, white, it all looks exactly the same!"
Well one, don't call someone stupid period, but especially at work in front of your boss! And two, that statement is ridiculous! That's like saying everyone looks good in yellow. Clothes or metal, same thing applies.


I just wanted to vent Haha he constantly comes to me saying this is stupid or that is wrong. I'm not even trying to seek him out!!! We get it you think you know everything, but keep your opinions to yourself

right?! if he knows so much... haha i dont know, the comment about the color of gold is what annoyed me most. Common sense! If someone is a "summer" or a "winter" that doesnt just apply to makeup or the color of shirts they can wear. And when i said it he looked at me like i was a loon!

On the plus side though, my FI fiiinally understood what i meant about the metal colors. I had im try on all of my trinity rolls on his pinky and when he put the WG one on he said, ugh no! I knew he would come around

Haha thank for lettinge vent. At my job I constantly talk to annoying people on the phone (call center). So when I get off the phone and have to then talk to annoying coworkers, I get extra annoyed

There is an old saying that goes along the lines of: a little bit of information can be a dangerous thing. That's what I thought of when reading this thread! It sounds like this guy's wife has shared some 'knowledge' along the way (right or wrong?) and he's now decided to share that or his interpretation of that, thinking he knows so much more than you. Uh-huh. On this subject, he has no idea who he's up against!

I think we've all met this guy, or a version of him. I remember when planning my best friend's baby shower, out of no where, her sister declared that she know that onesies were no good, because babies grow out of them. They sure do! Along with everything else we buy them. Where she got such information, and why she thought is was so important, I don't remember. She still makes such declarations (to my friend, I rarely see her) and the kid is 16. I think she makes them all crazy, just like this jeweler's husband, and we here at PS know there are a lot of people with little bits of 'knowledge' about jewelery, yet they think that makes them experts.
