Could anyone tell me which would clean the harder to reach back part of a solitaire round diamond better? The jewel jet or a quartz heated ultrasonic?

nothing beats a heated US for the dirty jobs

but for a quick clean,i use the jewel jet.

I prefer the heated Ultrasonic. For a quick clean the jewel jet does a nice job. I have a Crest Ultrasonic cleaner and love it!!! There is a thread on US in the shopping forum, BTW...

I read on here today (somewhere) that a few people LOVE Jewelclean and they swear by it.

I use Conneussiers (spelling might be off) - one for gold/diamonds, one for silver, and one for pearls/gems.

Let me tell you - I used it on like 10 girls'' rings and their diamonds looked practically brand new -they couldn''t believe it.
(i carry the travel gel brush with me)....

Try it - you''ll LOVE it! They sell it at Wal*Mart and I''ve seen it at fine jewelry stores, as well.

Dilbert, if you can afford an ultrsonic cleaner with heat I would say go for it. The Crest is a nice model, but there are a couple other brands to also consider. You would need to get a 1/2 gallon unit before they offer heat in them.

If you have other questions on them let me know.

which is really sad because it got my ring SO clean!

I purchased my (new) Crest 1/2 gallon Ultrasonic Cleaner on eBay not too long ago and could not be happier with it.

I picked it up for $179.00, incl. shipping. The same seller still has them available for a slightly higher price, although he''s now including the mesh basket which didn''t come with my order (I knew this in advance).

Anyway, here''s the link in case you''re interested - I this this is still a good price, and the seller is legitimate and quick to ship.

I have both the Jewel Jet and 1 pint professional Ultrasonic Cleaner with no heat. 1 pint size if perfect for me. My wife only have 2 rings a pair of studs. To get the jeweler clean job, you need both. The UC cleans/degreases the diamond. The steamer blast away the water/solution - it's like rinse and dry in one step. UC without steamer is like washing dishes and let it dry in your dish strainer; you will get water spots.

Heated UC is for professional jeweler. They turn it on in the morning and the solution is kept warm all day long. For home use, waiting 20 minutes for it to heat up is not for me. Don't get me wrong. Heated solutions does a better job but you can do that much faster with a microwave. The energy generated by the professional grade UC will keep the solution hot during the cleaning process.

With the money you save from getting 'heated' model, you can get a Jewel Jet. It's only 69 dollars.

If you just want to get one, you should get the UC. Steamer is not really necessary.
