i searched for this and it looks like it has not been debated in a little while. I am in the market and am trying to decide between the jewel jet or the sharper image ultrasonic cleaner. what do you recommend? any other ideas? Ideally, I would like to spend at or under $100.

THANKS!

under $100....Jewel jet under $200....a heated ultrasonic cleaner with S/S tank.

I have the SI but I heard from past threads they die after a year. There are a few threads around her. I read some threads where people liked the Jewel Jet but if my SI dies I will buy the one like DF posted.

I have a lot of intricate pave work in my ring and was told that the steamer would be much easier on the stones.

my Gem Oro is the older (model 1 QTH) the newer (model 1QTVH) has a separate thermostatically controlled heat switch or....buy the one w/o heat and just add hot water + solution when ever you need to use it. all models use S/S tank ,so you don't need to worry about leaks or cracks.

bought the brand new Jewel Jet from Wink.

I have a refurbed JewelJet and LOVE it!!!!

I have an US cleaner and love it. But now that my new setting has pave in it, I''m about to buy the Jewel Jet. I don''t think the SI US is the only good one out there. I bought my US off amazon for around $40 (they also sell the Jewel Jet btw). I think it is the Haier model. It has a stainless tank, and it works great. I don''t think you need one that heats the water because I use hot water in my US and it stays hot for a long time.

I have a Jewel Jet and I love it. I use it on my RHR which is a EC yellow sapphire that nothing would keep clean until I got the Jewel Jet.

My SI didn''t last a year. My Jewel Jet is awesome and works great. I just bought an US with a steel tank but it''s pretty new so I can''t say how long it will last.

DF, as you seem quite informed on the topic - I need to buy a cleaner could you possibly advise which do you think better - ultrasonic or steam? I don''t have any pave jewelery.
Also interested in anybody else''s opinion!

nothing beats ultrasonic for cleanning DD. you can also clean a few pieces at the same time.

ok thankyou - so the sparkle spa is the way to go just for home use? I''m in Australia and have never heard of them retailing here - if anybody has a good online source I''m all ears

Have found just one on ebay, but try to avoid it where possible..

Jewel Jet, Jewel Jet! I bought both at the same timet o compare them, and ended up returned teh sharper image ultrasonic. I didn''t feel like my ring looked any cleaner than just scrubbing it with ammonia and a toothbrush ... but I see a big difference in sparkle when I use my Jewel Jet!

Vespergirl, I would say the JJ does a better job than the US but I use them both.

depends on the type setting....a US works a lot better.

hey that is good to know; I always wondered which was better. I do like my US though.

I wasn''t impressed with the JJ. But then again was used to the professional steamer we had at work. Guess I got spoiled. For an US, I love my Crest, and love that it''s heated.

Arjuna, I''m in Perth and I got mine here:

http://www.wildelectronics.com.au/store/customer/product.php?productid=16307&cat=0&page=1

It shipped promptly and has worked well to date (approx 6months so far) I think they are Sydney based. I don''t think it is of the same quality of the more industrial type units that are out there, but it has stainless bowl. I couldn''t tell you if the performance has dropped at all as all our jewelry is much cleaner all of the time now. The first few times are the greatest watching clouds of muck come off your jewelry, lol! Now you just don''t have that built up grime.

In general I like the ultrasonic but have no experience with steam bar the one time we dropped her engagement ring at the jewelers for a ''proper'' clean. They hit it with an US and steam combo, which was slightly superior to the US alone...of course you get the ring back in very favourable shop lighting too which helps

For the thread starter I would go jewel-jet if the SI is getting negative feedback in terms of longevity and you don''t want to stretch the budget to a higher quality US.
