I know - I would''ve thought they go after smaller animals, not dogs, but then again I live in NYC (and obviously no coyotes around here) so, what do I know? Do pray that her pup is still alive somehow, but if not, I hope she didn''t suffer.

That is truly sad--I can''t even imagine. Where was she? I just can''t believe a cayote was so brazen...poor Daisy.

I used to watch Newlyweds and remember when they were having the debate over what breed of dog to get and Nick wanted a Husky, but she wanted something small. I thought it was really sweet of him to get Daisy for her, I''m sure he''s probably sad over the news as well, even if he hasn''t seen Daisy in years.

oh no!!!!!!!!!! how terrible...

That is terribly sad. What a sad year for Ms. Simpson.

It happens a lot in some areas. When I lived in MO, the coyotes would often snatch little dogs like 5#ers and drag them off to the woods to eat them. It was pretty well known that you had to walk out little dogs on a leash in certain neighborhoods w/ lots of woods around them to avoid this problem.

We have this problem out in AZ too. I see coyotes in my work parking lot. The areas developed so fast that this is an issue... and one coyote I saw was probably 40 pounds. I was out running and he was maybe 15-20 feet away. I see them about once a month on my various runs. Just sad!

This is terribly sad. I feel bad for Jessica, especially because her pup was taken from her right in front of her own eyes.

My husband never allowed our small dog (a Jack/Rat) to be left out in our backyard alone or even with our older dog when she was little because hawks are known to swoop down and pick up small animals all the time on Long Island. Our Uncle sees the bunnies that live in his yard get swept up all the time. It''s so sad to witness.

Poor Daisy! JS is having a very bad year...I wish them the best of luck in finding her and if not, I hope she didn''ts suffer.

How heartbreaking! I''ve known a few people that have had their smaller dogs snatched by coyotes. It happens far more than I think we all realize. I lived in a fairly urban area a few years back and it was a huge problem there.

Wow! That is very sad!

Poor thing. Coyotes are opportunistic. Cats/small dogs, it doesn''t matter to them. They''re everywhere here. We used to see tracks in the snow right up to the back of my parents house, to the shed where the outside cats stay.

I had no idea coyote attacks on pets were so prevalent. That's why when I first read this I found it hard to believe!

That's really bad luck, plus also such a brutal thing to have to witness. Jessica's going to have a tough time..

That is just so awful. I can''t even imagine . . . poor Jessica! She must be heartbroken!

We have a resident red tailed hawk in our subdivision and we have a small dog...I go out with him every time, and he is always on a leash as well (we don''t have a fenced yard). In fact when we adopted him from the shelter, the woman warned us to be with him while outside because of hawks and coyotes.

Coyotes have always been a big problem for small pets in CA. What an awful thing to have happen.

That breaks my heart. That poor doggie. I feel really bad for Jessica. She adored that dog!!

poor pup, that''s sad

We have coyotes here, and it''s true that they will just snap anything that is small enough for them to kill. How sad - Daisy will not be coming back

Oh, that is so sad. Ugh. Poor Daisy and Jessica.

I used to live up against a forest preserve and I''ve heard the sounds of a pack of coyotes on a domestic dog. Their pack yips are sad to hear.

Oh gosh, that''s so sad. The dog was so cute, I hope she didn''t suffer.

That''s just horribly sad... we have a pack of coyotes that roam the hills behind our house, we can hear them howling at night and I have seen them in our neighborhood roaming for food. Hubby heard them with a dog the other night he said it was just awful.

It happens a lot. I feel just terrible for her. The more we encroach on land, the less land they have to roam for food.. we have all sorts of wild animals in our suburban neighborhood. This is one reason our yard is fenced and I never let my cats out.

True true! And the less afraid of people the wild animals get. Never a good situation!

This is so awful!

Poor Jessica and the poor puppy. There were a bunch of reports of this happening in the Chicago suburbs a while back. I can''t imagine how powerless it must have felt to have witnessed it.

Poor Jessica and poor Daisy

I feel so bad for her! Being a dog owner and lover I can''t imagine how I would feel if that happend to one of my babies! Jessica seems to never get a break!

Oh that''s horrible! I''m so sorry for her and poor little miss Daisy.

I''ve heard many stories around here of people who lose dogs to coyotes right out of their backyard. Oh, it''s so heartbreaking.

That is terrible.

That''s so sad. How awful to have witnessed that.

It is so sad... We have coyotes in my mom''s neighborhood, and they have eaten a few of the small dogs from around the area. My dog is a small Lab, so I think she''s ok, but my mom just adopted a miniature dachshund, and HE probably looks like a tasty little snack!
