I saw Jeff's pic of his rough (shown below), and while there were a number of nice-looking pieces, the smaller piece of vanadium beryl called out to me. I contacted him to reserve, and the several week wait began. Finally, he was done. He sent me his hand shot shown in the second picture below. I was surprised I didn't see any of the blue that I saw in the rough. Quite frankly, I was a bit disappointed, as it looked to me like a not very well saturated mint tourmaline (at least on my phone, it looked a bit better on my computer monitor). However, Jeff assured me it was quite bluish green, and likened it to a green cuprian,so I paid and he shipped. I opened it and started to giggle with glee. 1.65 ct. and 5.67 x 8.53 mm. The plan is to set it in a three stone or five stone ring.

Stunning gem. This will be great in a ring so you can look at it all day. Congrats. I can't wait to see he ring

Yay! This is simply amazing
Cuprian quality colour indeed. Great decision to keep it.
Thanks for sharing the pics.

Thats a really gorgeous color! Thats really one to hang onto!

Yay! It looks so much nicer/bluer/glowier in your pics! So happy it turned out this way!

Lovely color!

I love the color. It's a vanadium beryl, not a chrysoberyl, right?

It is GORGEOUS. I love it and I can see why you do too!! Great choice.

Awesome, NOKTB! I love the brightness of the color. It certainly looks like it could almost compete with a cuprian - how does it fare next to yours? It looks great on your hand as well. Good going :appl:

WOW!!!!!  :appl: :appl:

I have seen 3 vanadium beryl in the spring show a few weeks ago - super color - unfortunately the vendor wanted 350 EUR for a small 0,30 ct round.. :wall: - but they are on my radar for Munich show....I think they are from Madagascar.

The other stone were pear shapes. And very close to FINE paraiba - and better than average qualities.

The color is different compared to columbian neon emeralds.

But this cushion .... awesome.

Multicolorgems offers now some quite cheap minty beryll - NOT this quality but very special...maybe interesting too.

It sure loves daylight and it absolutely brings out the vibrancy and blue. Beautiful.

Thank you all for your nice comments.

TL, it's a beryl, not a chryso. Too bad, I'd love the added durability in this colour! It's one of my all-time favourite colours. It reminds me of Emerald Lake up in the Yukon.

Marlow, I'd keep my eye out, too! Though .30 ct is a little small. ;)

Jeff said many vendors would probably call this an emerald, but he likes to be conservative. He also said: "Yes, that little guy just glows. One of the better colored, more saturated vanadium beryls that I've seen in quite some time."

Minou, I took this quick shot of it with my columbian emerald from Lisa and the cuprian from Peter. I'll try to take a better one tomorrow (I'll start by taking them out of their boxes).

Also took a couple of pics outside, against the green hedge and my teal purse.

Very very nice NKOTB, you have a great eye for buying beautiful gems.

What a gorgeous color!

I don't know what to say - I am so darn impressed. Your vanadium beryl (does he/she have a name yet?) easily holds its own against both the emerald and the cuprian! :appl:

ETA: LOVE the purse shot

Very nice stone, thanks for sharing!

I love it too, it's probably my all time favorite Jeff White stone. Really beautiful, enjoy it!

It can hold up well to any color metal too, it's so saturated.

Wow!   The colour is incredible! I love everything about this stone!

Aww, thanks Lovinggems! And derbygal, dk, and Evangeline!

TL, that's high praise coming from you, thank you! It will go in white gold, probably. :)

Minou, no name yet. Any suggestions? ;)

That is beautiful!

What a lovely stone!  Who knew that "vanadium beryl" was such a pretty stone?

Apparently, you did . . .

Oh, gorgeous!!

Wow that is gorgeous! Great score!

You know I'm not good at naming them. But that said, I think in this case, you should name him "Paraiba" ;))

Wow, how cool is that, bet it will look even more amazeballs when set!!!!

Thanks, loverskites, distracts, Mochiko and arkie (already asked my jeweller to look into some side diamonds :Up_to_something: ).

Ilander, I actually thought the rough might be a tourmaline when I first asked about it! Lol. I knew of vanadium beryl, and actually have often ogled the one on Jeff's site in the beryl section. Not sure I knew exactly how it would turn out though! Hey, speaking of pretty...you get those Gene stones yet? ;)

Minou - lol! Hmmmm...

Stunning!! Can't wait to see it set!

Wow, stunning stone! You sure do pick nice gems & settings. I look foreward to seeing the stone set. :appl:

If you ever feel like selling this one in future, let me know. I'm in T.O. LOL

Judy

Thanks, eyre and Judy (sorry to say, though, this is on my CDH list. ;)) ).
