I found something that I couldn't say no to, so this ring is up for a new home. The Afghan mint tourmaline was cut by Jeff White and the setting is custom by David Klass.

Specs:
  • 2.99 ct tourmaline, 9.39 x 6.74. It was sold to me as VS clarity, but there is an inclusion that runs horizontally across the stone.
  • It sits 6.0 mm up from the finger.
  • The platinum setting weighs 7.1 grams, set with .81cts of G color, VS clarity pear shape and marquise diamonds, size 6.5.
My cost was $3,280. Letting it go for $2800 via PP F&F. Contact info:

I love this so much!!!! best wishes for a quick sale!!!!!

OMG, your ring is gorgeous! I remember when you posted it in SMTB, and I *lusted* after it. The proportions are perfect. Someone needs to scoop up that ring. I hope you have a quick sale!

Wow stunning ring!

*BUMP*

Adding some additional info regarding the inclusions!

For this horizontal one, per Jeff:
That is what is known as a rind crack. They sometimes form at the crystal surface during growth and penetrate inward for a few fractions of a mm. They often get cut completely away. In this case, I knew it wouldn't impact performance, so I made the conscious choice to leave it in.

Also, in the course of louping the ring with another PSer, we came across another imperfection. I had a bench look at it under the microscope, and it was his opinion that it’s an inclusion, and it is surface-reaching. He could see where it had been polished, hence the opinion that it’s an inclusion. He didn’t think it’s a durability issue, and the ring can be safely sized within reason.

These pictures were taken with a macro lens layered with a loupe; I can’t see it without a loupe.

Ohhhh let me know if it falls through. LOVE LOVE LOVE this setting. Would you be offended if I recreated it with one of my gems?

Can do and not at all! I think Harry Winston and Tiffany have both made this style so it’s hardly proprietary!

I can’t believe this ring sat for two years before selling! It’s lovely :) I bought a tourmaline from finewater that looks very similar to this and it’s being set now. :)

I can’t believe such a great piece sat for so long, but glad that she did because she’s staying in the PS family :)
