Hi All,

quick question about James Allen. Im considering buying through them. Just wondering from people''s past experiences or if anyone else knows: I want to check if a diamond I am looking at is Eye-Clean. Will they check for me? Do they have someone there that can do something like this? Just curious.

Thanks,

W

Yes, they will have their gemologist check it for you. They are very easy to work with. I was comparing three stones from them a few months ago, and their gemologist looked at the three and gave me her opinions. She recommended two out of the three, and said that she would not advise that I get the third stone because the position of the feather may compromise the stone''s durability. I ended up going with a different stone from a different company, but I would not hesitate to work with JA in the future.

I got my ring (stone & setting) from JA about 2 months ago and they were great to work with. Ask them any question and they will get back to you!

Yes they are a good company and can check diamonds to make sure they are eyeclean for you.

Also, eye clean to one person might not be eye clean to another person. Be specific if you take eye clean to be only from the top view or all over the stone (360 degrees). Most vendors look at eye clean only from the top view from 12 inches away. Some customers think that eye clean should be about 6 inches away from the eye, so tell JA what your expectations are.

The only issue I have with JA is their settings. They have had a lot of issue with their settings and are at best inconsistent unless you REALLY emphasis that the thing had better be perfect in terms of polish, finish and symmetry, and that they''d better check the thing with a loupe, then check it again, and once more... making sure they get every nook and cranny before shipping it to you. But I would buy a diamond from them without any problem at all.

I had no clue they aren''t consistent with their settings. I was quite disappointed with my setting and I don''t know how the flaw wasn''t found with their quality control person when my naked eye could see it! At least JA has great customer service and I probably will just return my setting (looking at various options right now).

this is making me worried! so specifically what kind of problem did you have with your setting? i''m planning on purchasing the platinum french cut pave setting for my cushion (as long as everything checks out ok with the stone). any suggestions on preventing the same problems from occurring?

If you do a search on PS, you will see that pretty much every vendor recommended here has had some sort of quality control glitch at one time or another, JA included. However, you will also see that the vendors respond to their customer concerns and go out of their way to ensure that you are satisfied with your purchase.

When I purchased a ring from JA a few months ago, my customer rep, Darin, was in contact with me every step of the way. On the day the ring was supposed to be shipped out, JA''s quality control person called me to say that they were not entirely satisfied with the ring and they would be sending it back to have it corrected so it met their standards.

It shipped out to me a few days later and it was perfect. I later sent it back to them -- not for quality control issues, but because I chose a different style ring and different stone -- and their return process was superb. And I was very nervous about the return, too, and called them many times! They reassured me every step of the way and I would not hesitate to work with them again. They stand behind their product.

hmm I think you had way better service then me with my setting purchase sarap333. Nobody from their quality control called me

I was given the option to return without the 15% restocking fee or um swallow the flaw. For the past two weeks I have been trying to find another vendor that can offer me something similar at a similar price (or even a bit higher) but I got to admit JA''s prices are hard to beat. I''m wondering if my problem is because I am in Canada too

Sorry Aida1010 for not responding earlier. I was away for our Canada day weekend.

I'm sure there are plenty of people who have had positive experiences with JA, but I will never buy from them for the following reasons:

1. I sent them two e-mails and they never responded. I know it's easier to call, but I am always tied up during the day at work.

2. I requested a ring sizing kit through their website, and never received it.

3. I placed a diamond on hold one evening. The representative told me it would be held for 24 hours, and we agreed that I would call back the next day to complete the purchase. When I woke up the next morning the diamond had been sold, even though it was held under my name.

I'm actually quite thankful, because I ended up with Brian Gavin Diamonds in the end. Lesley responds to e-mails in minutes, between about 8am and 2am (no that is not a typo), 7 days a week.

No problem Setell!

WOW!! I can understand all of the frustrations that you guys have had. So far, I''ve had a really positive experience with James Allen. We will see what happens once I get my stone though! My only complaint is that I had to wait an extra week and a half to receive my ring because the manufacturer of the setting that I ordered takes the whole week of the 4th of July off, so they couldn''t get my ring shipped out until today the 13th and I ordered my ring on the 2nd I believe.

I also ordered a ring sizer and it quickly came in the mail. Also, any question I''ve ever asked, has been answered very quickly via email. I''ve been working with Eileen, who is really sweet and helpful.

I''m hoping that when I get my ring it is up to par, as my honey will be popping the question with it shortly!! I decided to go ahead and order the setting and the diamond since I have a 30 day return policy with both of them.

Just make sure you actually speak to the gemologist on staff. I tried but instead the salesperson "relayed" the info from the gemologist. And the info was pretty basic and honestly I''m not sure if the gemologist even looked at it. So I ended up buying both the diamonds I was looking at too see in person then returned the one I did not want.

hmmm ... i''m only needing a stone but i''m really beginning to second-guess JA.
