Hi,

I have been researching diamonds for the past year or so and am new looking into making a purchase. I'm considering two diamonds, both of which are the signature cuts of the respective dealer.

1. James Allen True Hearts
2. White Flash A Cut Above Hearts & Arrows

The most important aspect of the diamond to the wearer is the brilliance and thus, the cut, which is why I'm inclined to purchase a signature ideal cut.

I am just wondering if any of the above mentioned is better than the other? Is one more sparkly to the eye? Is one noticeably better than the other?

The two I am current considering are

1. http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1436448.asp
2. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2715421.htm

I do like a setting that's offered by James Allen and can't find a similar one at Whiteflash. I may though, just purchase the loose diamond and then look around at some local shops to to see what settings they offer.

Thanks for your help!

EDIT: Also, how do these diamonds compare to a simple AGS ideal cut diamond?

Do you have to have H&A? You can probably go larger without (and the diamond will still be well cut).

Both those diamonds are nice. The I gives you a little larger size while the H gives you a little better color.
You would have to decide whats important to you.

You might want to call and get those stones put on hold so someone doesnt take them before you decide.

The WF, no question. More info already provided without having to request, higher colour, same clarity, negligible size difference, better policies wrt upgrade/buyback, same price..

In general - different vendors, different settings as you've already noticed, different upgrade/buyback/etc. policies... you'll have to decide what combination of factors is important to you.

Overall, I believe WF's ACA's often are superior to JA's True Hearts. The difference in price is worth it to me for the trade-in policy and knowing I get the top quality cut.

Wow, but in the case of the two you linked, they are close to the same price but the WF stone is an H although the JA I stone is just a tiny bit larger! I would choose the WF stone between these two.

Show us the setting you're interested in and maybe we can make suggestions of similar ones.

which setting do you like from JA?

I think it would be safe to go either of them, no big difference.

One thing you may know, JA can provide IS/ASET images for further inspection for free upon request. It maybe another way to get your perfect stone in bigger size and good price.

Sorry for the delayed post - quite a long day.

The reason I'm choosing hearts and arrows is because it's what I've concluded will give me the best appearance in the diamond. I may be wrong here, so call me out if I am.

Diamond size is a factor in this case, but quite the opposite of the traditional situation. She delivers babies for a living and if the diamond is too large, it may get in the way. She also has small hands and after trying some on, we've concluded that the 0.5 - 0.75 range would be best.

I am also getting the hint that an ideal cut is maybe no different than a signature cut? More of a marketing gimmick?

I have purchased from both and just want to add that IMO James Allen has better customer service. This is very important to me personally.

Both stones are excellent and both vendors are excellent. WF does have a better upgrade policy, however, and that is something to take into consideration.

i just purchased with WF and was very happy with their service. I was emailing almost daily with questions for nearly a month. They were quick to respond and extremely helpful. I would recommend them without a doubt. I havent seen the stone yet but my jeweler said it is a beautiful diamond. Sorry I cannot offer advice on JA but I am sure they are good as well.

Maybe we can make this simpler.

She's sentimental, so upgrading to a better diamond will never happen. If she did want a "nicer" ring, we'd buy it when we're older and richer.

Customer service is important, but not a deal breaker.

I just want brilliance!

Well, I've decided on the JA diamond. They had a setting I enjoyed more.

Thanks for the help. Hopefully when this diamond arrives, it'll knock my boots off.
