Does James Allen have a B&M store in Maryland ? If not I am looking for a reputable store to purchase an engagement ring. Looking to spend

around 6K. Any help would be much appreciated. Not sure what to look for in a ring ? I would prefer to buy it in person.

Thanks,

Parrithead

What to look for in a ring...not sure I can help you awfully well on that specifically. JA and others will carry a complement of them, many economical to go along with your selection of a diamond. Some are quite choosy about the ring...maybe they'll chime in.

A diamond...rounds are easy and easily favorable for light return (the thing that easily makes diamonds cool). Cut is the odds on item to attend to first. Color, carat, clarity...are all close seconds, with G VS2 and a carat often representing some sort of target, with your eye trending from F - H and VS2 - SI1 without many stretch marks, and where going down to .9 or so is reasonable enough (and I did it). SIs can be without inclusions, which most want their diamond to be...but the recommendation here, especially when shopping these...is to ask your vendor if they are eye clean...so as to save you and they time up front.

JA has offices near Frederick. Though his website probably says he won't see you "live," I'd call him, as it may be a function of the mood as to whether you can see him (I did, now almost 3 years ago). Actually, a quick look brings this one to my eye...though there's lots of others to consider.

If you have the patience, I have 2 links below my signature you may find helpful...but then again, as the author, I'm prejudiced. Most links within are to sources here on Pricescope...a very helpful place.

Arrrrrggggghhh, welcome to Pricescope!

Regards,

P.S. If Jim says no or only maybe, GOG is a longish, but not too long (for an important, and planned purchase) drive away, he's more than likely to have your option of choice to see on premises (he is more explicitly a store), and a number will be available from him, too, including this one...

Ideally, go to both for this important choice. For JA, you'd need an appointment. This is practically true for GOG in Long Island, as well. Read posts about people who have made it a weekend, and find B&Bs nearby (he is open weekends). Enjoy!

PPS...in a real rush. Search on DC here. There's other options, including Pricescope friends (Capital Bill) who sell Infinity diamonds, big stores like Charles Alexander who you can search on-line before showing up (and where pricing is probably more favorable when you do), and Jareds, who should have some AGS0s to see and compare. And ditto...to see and compare...Christian Bernards for Heart of Fire and tiffany's for...Tiffany's to see what most would regard a fine look (though critics on this board are even harsh on them). But...you might exclude these latter two to four...now that you've actually found Pricescope...but could go there to compare, etc....

Hi Parrithead,

I would suggest Dahne & Weinstein located in lutherville on Falls Rd and Greenspring Valley, or Sander's jewelers in Mountain Rd in Pasadena. These were just a few places my Fi and I looked at before we left Maryland and moved to the midwest. Oh how I miss good old Maryland

What area of MD are you located?

LinB

Thanks Ira for all the information, very helpful.

LinB, I will look into those locations.

Thank you both

Located in Chesapeake City

Isn't Chesapeake City close to Delaware? I am not familiar with jewelers there, but there is no sales tax in DE

...just a thought...

I beleve Quest Jewelers is in No. Va. near Tyson''s Corner. They have a great reputation here on PS. They can ship the ring to you in MD and you won''t have to pay sales tax.

Quest website

I''m not sure JA allows individual customers to come in, I think it''s online sales only. Best to ask them to be sure. Either way, they are very trustworthy and have a return policy...which is the next best thing relative to in person.

I would call Quest jewelers. They are located near tysons corner. SOmeone else gave an improper web address- their website is www.questfinejewelers.com

Their number is 703-204-0111.

I recently purchased a stone from them. Their prices were very competitive. I am anxioulsy awaiting a custom made ring now. Although I don''t yet have my finished product, they are highly recommended on pricescope, and very nice to work with. They will bring in stones for you to look at w/o charging for shipping and insurance.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I am very lose to Delaware, but have had no luck finding a reputable jewler. Most of them are over priced and

unwilling to negotiate. I will try Quest Jewlers in Va. I have seen a lot of good things about them on this site. I havent been able to access

their website ? Mabey its me ?? Keep the good info coming !! Thanks again !!

I think fullojoy nailed the website for Quest, here, but ...unless you''re near them...it''s not clear to me how you can go diamond shopping easily there. Their web site is funky...or at least...you have to depend on them to shop for you...if you could get their site to submit. With JA, at least you can look at their list. I do see, too with JA, that there seems to be a possibility to make an appointment. Did you call them? But still...first choice might be GOG, and second choice, to do both GOG and JA.

Quest very nice for ring things...though maybe diamonds, too. Doing diamond shopping at a distance, though...there''s the rub. A more conventional diamond dealer would have its advantages, I think.

Regards,

"I would call Quest jewelers. They are located near tysons corner."
