Please help. I've been burned before. I need honest opinions on this diamond. Fire and brilliance are my first priority.

Staying under 2 on the HCA will give you more the look you are striving for. The stone scores a 3.6 on the HCA. For Fire and Light Return your stone scored "very good." I would probably keep looking ;) .

I have these 3. Do they look better?

This one is $3920. Better?

The HCA calculator is available on this website. You might get further if you calculate HCAs and narrow it down, then ask for help.

Also, don't paste images of certs. Insert the details as text - easier for people to read.

Ok. New at this. Sorry.

I really need help.

Here's a link to the HCA.

https://www.pricescope.com/tools/hca

Plug in 4 numbers from the lab report.
Depth %
Table %
Crown Angle in degrees.
Pavilion Angle in degrees.

Reject rounds scoring over 2.0
Get an Idealsope pic on those scoring under 2.
Compare IS pic to this reference chart.
HCA under 2.0 is not enough.
Crown and Pavilion angles from the report are the average of 8 angles around the diamond.
If some are high and others low the HCA won't catch this, but Idealscope pic will.

Great. Thanks for helping a newbie!

Ok. Here goes.

I couldn't figure out CA AND PA

James Allen website hard for me to read tiny print.

The copied and pasted images were too tiny to read any of the numbers (for my eyes anyway). The one under "I really need help" scored a 0.9 which is good for a BIC or Brilliant Ideal Cut stone if that's what you're looking for. But as Kenny said, you need to go one step further and see an IS or ASET to make sure the stone is returning light in an optimal way. I think James Allen will give you up to 3 IS and/or ASETS for diamonds you are interested in. Narrow down to 3 diamonds that score under 2 on the HCA and then ask JA for the IS and ASET images. We can help you interpret those if you post them.

Your last post doesn't give us crown angle (CA) or pavilion angle (PA). Table and depth aren't much help alone. I've noticed that on the JA website the CA and PA aren't always posted, so I'm thinking you'd need to call them or IM them to find out.

A BIC stone is preference. Typically they are brighter and have a larger spread, but have less fire. Whether or not it's a beautiful stone depends on what you are looking for or what the receiver prefers.

I did what u guys suggested with all your great help. I think I'm going with this on.

.82 carat H-vs1 excellent cut

Depth 62.40
Girdle medium
Table 57.00
PA 43.5
CA 35
L/w/d/ 5.96*6.00*3.73 mm

I liked the look of it. What du u guys think?

Maybe the pavilion angle you posted is actually the pavilion %?? Because a PA of 43.5 is crazy talk! That and plugging in the numbers into the HCA gives an error. What did you get in the HCA calculator?

Here is a cheat sheet of sorts when looking for cut specs. Best is to verify with an Idealscope and/or ASET image and your eyes in different lighting.

Table: 54-58%

Depth: 60-61.5%

Crown angle: 34.0-35.0 degrees

Pavilion angle: 40.6-41.0 degrees

Girdle should be thin, medium, or slightly thick (avoid very thin or thick)

Yes. They were percentage.

Ok. I spoke with james Allan rep.

Table 57%
Depth 62.4%
CA 35
PA 41

Thanks for being so patient and helpful.

PA is 41 degrees
CA is 35 degrees

Girdle is medium
No fluorescence
Excellent polish and symmetry

Okay, it scores a 2.4 on the HCA. Can JA get you the IS and ASET for this stone?

I can try. Is 2.4 good?

What does IS and ASET stand for.

Well less than 2 is ideal. 2-2.5 is borderline if the price is right, but usually you could do better if shopping on-line since you have so many options.

IS - Idealscope
ASET - Angular Spectrum Evaluation Technology

Type those in the search bar and you will find threads on it, or google those terms. In short they will give you information on the performance of the stone.

Question to you - would you consider buying from another on-line vendor? Absolutely nothing wrong with JA at all, but there are a few other vendors who take the guess work out of shopping/choosing which can be very helpful for a guy :). What is your budget?

Reject rounds scoring over 2.0.
Let someone else buy it who doesn't know any better.
Round is the most abundant shape so I'd find one scoring under 2.0.

Then get an Idealscope image.

$4000 for stone

Please, what are some other good vendors?

I'm trying to stay between .80 and .90 carats. But I want fire and brilliance over size.

Is Ritani LLC good?

Other good vendors are Whiteflash, Goodoldgold, Winkjones, Briangavindiamonds come to mind.

I've bought from and love the first two, but the second two are highly respected here too.

Here are two 0.8 carat super ideal stones, H, VS2 that are Whiteflash's A Cut Above line that's in your budget. They are cut to give optimal light return and performance. You could not go wrong with one of these stones. As I said, they have done the homework for you and provide images. But really any A Cut Above stone will perform beautifully.

Brian Gavin has a few options but they are slightly smaller around 0.7 carats.

Wow. They're lovely. Thanks so much. I'm wondering if I should even waste my time looking for a .85 to .89 diamond. Seems they don't exist.
