Hi PSers:

We are currently looking at a diamond on JA and could you help me to decide whether this diamond is worth buying. Thanks very much! I am currently concerning 3 things:

1:The report has been 2 years and makes me wondering why it has not been sold. I hate to think that way, but is it possible a second hand diamond. How can I find out?

2:The cut adviser suggest below 2.6 and is it not worth buying if performance>2 ? I do not know why it is stated as " Excellent" on the report.

3:The color is H and I was expecting F or better color. I am quite color sensitive and for me, G is definitely more yellow than F.

Specs below:
Carat: 2.26
Color: H
Clarity: VS1
Cut: Excellent
Table: 58%( Can not really tell is a "58%" or "59%" on the report I have from JA)
Depth:60.8%
Crown:35.5%
Pavilion:40.8%
Girdle: Thin to Medium
Price: $24K

Cut Adviser result:
Factor Grade
Light Return Very Good
Fire Very Good
Scintillation Very Good
Spread Very Good
Total Visual Performance 2.6 - Very Good - Worth buying if the price is right

Thanks again for your help!

1. Large stones can sometimes take a long time. There are other possible reasons why it hasn''t moved, but if it is not a cut-related reason, then it does not matter.

2. Stones with HCA 2-4 are not NOT worth buying; they are worth buying if the price is right.

3. There are higher color stones available to you.

An Idealscope image is essential for this diamond in order to see how well those angles work together, you can request one from James Allen.

As to the age of the report, it is possible it has taken a while to sell being a larger diamond, if you ask the seller they might be able to tell you more. Also concerning a diamond being " second hand" we have no way of knowing the history of any stone unless it was bought as rough and crafted into a finished diamond by a company ( such as Infinity), even if the grading report is brand new there is still a possibility the diamond was worn and traded in, recut - all sorts of possibilities!

If you are colour sensitive then stick with D - F perhaps if you can see warmth in a G colour - if you have been comparing diamonds in person and arrived at this conclusion, were you comparing well cut diamonds with GIA or AGS grading? That can make a difference, especially if you were viewing stones from mall stores as an example which were not graded by these labs and not well cut.
