Hello PS,

Im not sure if I am in the correct forum (I could not find one specifically for settings) but I need your assistance once again. I have decided on a .9 brilliant round and am now onto finding the right setting.

I am interested in the JA Pave' setting:

but prefer a 6 prong. I spoke with JA customer support and they said that they could make me a 6 prong version but was wondering if it would be a good idea? I don't know too much about settings but know that it can affect the look of the diamond. From what i have learned while speaking to JA is that the prongs would look the same but there would be 6 prongs instead of 4. From doing some research on customer reviews... the only complaint ive come across about the Pave' is the prongs look too big.

My question would be... would making the Pave' into a 6 prong without making the prongs thinner be too much coverage underneath and not let enough light through?

I have attached my other option which would be the 6 Prong Knife Edge. Would adding 6 prongs to the Pave be similar to the 6 prong solitaire?

What it will look like. (this is a 2 carat... imagine those prongs on a .9)

I greatly appreciate all your inputs. Thank you in advance!

In well cut diamonds, the light is reflected out of the top of the stone, so you can completely cover the sides and it won't matter.

A six prong head usually has slightly thinner prongs than a 4 prong head. It would be the same style as is on the 4 prong ring. And yes, those heads are used all the time on small stones. A 6 prong head for a half carat stone will be more delicate (in proportion to stone size) than one for a 3 ct stone.

That knife edge ring is handmade and has a different style head. So unless you have requested a handmade head, I seriously doubt it will look like that one.

Is this for yourself? If so, you'll just have to decide whether you want an all metal e-ring and pair it with a diamond wedding band or have the pave on the e-ring and get a matching wedding band. I personally have a knife edge solitaire and like it a lot. If this is for someone else, you need to know what she likes!

This ring will be for my girlfriend. I have discussed with her the style of ring she likes and she likes the look of the Pave' but also likes a 6 prong. JA does not make a 6 prong Pave' so I will have to request for a custom head.

I understand the Knife Edge that I posted has handmade prongs, and that the Pave will not have the same style prongs. The Knife edge is my other option so I was trying to compare that style of 6 prong to what the Pave' 6 prong would look like.

My main concern is that if they make the Pave into a 6 prong, would they make the prongs proportionately thinner? Im afraid that they wont and I will have 6 thick prongs overwhelming the .9 carat stone.

Thank you.

Here is a side-by-side of the two settings I am stuck on. I like the prongs from the knife-edge better but like the Pave' style more. Do the prongs on the Pave' look too long, thin and "cheap"?

Thank you in advance.
