I have been looking around for a diamond for my wife. And these 2 are the ones within my budget:

I would like to find out whether I and J will have big difference if the settings will be using platinum? Any of your advice is greatly appreciated.

J will definitely have a tint. I is where most people start to see a bit of tint. Good Old Gold did a series of pictures here:

The absolute one thing I like about BN is that they have videos of actual diamond in settings. I found a platinum one, and you can see the comparisons of the stones including J color stones. Normally you're only going to see a very slight tint from the side view. Is there a reason you have to buy from BN?

I like the color comparison video that was linked and I also like that BN has videos of stones in settings. However its important to understand that its near impossible to judge color based on what you see on your monitor. Each monitor is different so color will appear different as well. With BNs videos we don't know what lighting environment is being used...we can assume one that displays the ring to its best advantage. Its likely similar to jewelry store lighting that we often warn people about. The good thing about Johns video is we know the lightening environment and that the white balance has been set accurately (based on Jon's comment to such) of course there is still the monitor issue but you are able to see slight differences in color which gives a basic idea of what you might see from one stone to another. Color is so complex and subjective you really need to see some real life examples to develop a personal preference. Can you view some well cut stones in person in many different lighting environments to see what YOU think? How will you be setting the stone?

I choose BN because I think their price is lower compared to other websites such as: JA, WF, etc. (it could be just my own perception though). I will go to my local jewel shops to look around to see if I can compare some I and J stones.

Remember to compare apples to apples. For instance be sure that the stone are graded by GIA or AGS and that they are equally well cut. A GIA excellent cut with J color will be whiter and brighter than a poorly cut GIA I for instance. Ignore stones with EGL reports...they aren't consistent enough to make comparisons in my opinion. And look under many different lighting situations...outside or by a window the office etc. Jewelry store lighting is designed to make all diamond sparkle and appear bright and lively, this may not be the case when you get it home.
