Hi All,

I've been all over PS and there is a ton of information out there on this topic! I ended up with a L cushion cut that I am planning to have VC set in his Anne Marie. As most, I don't want there to be a huge contrast with the Halo. When I spoke with VC he said he only carries G and up Melee. Does anyone know if you can get Melee with a lower color? I've spoken with other jewelers and they say its no problem. VC on the other hand says that anything lower is typically garbage. I've also seen lots of post talking about full vs. single cuts, how Melee will never match, etc. I get all that but still want to see if I could try and match it some how or some way!

FYI: VC suggested going with single cut G color meleee. Example, please!

Thanks,

Kyle

Honestly, I think it would be very rare for a vendor to carry lower colored melee. At least I haven't heard of it.

But, even if they did, just by the sheer size, it's going to appear white, much whiter than your stone. So I'm not sure
that lower color pave would make enough of a difference in a halo.

As elle said. Due to the size of the facetts the low color melee will still out white if you get full cuts. You would have to get IJKL single cuts and that is going to be tough and very expensive due ro rarity
.

My center stone is a GIA M and the melee in my halo setting are J/K single cuts. The vendor I used (Joe Escobar) had no problems finding these for me, nor did they charge any difference in price than was originally agreed upon for white full cut melee. There is little to no noticeable color contrast between my center and the melee stones. Granted my center faces up quite white for an M, but still, I'm always pleasantly surprised by the lack of color difference.

Thanks star_sparkle!

This is exactly what Adam from OWD has told me as well.

He said he would have zero issues getting J/K single cuts so I’m not sure why a super star designer like VC would.

my center stone is a K and when i had it set i asked DK to change to J/K color single cut melees from the G/H he originally planned to use and he did just that with no issues.
hope this helps!

There have been long running debates on here about diamond colour there are plenty of members that are purists that don't like mid to lower colours (I'm not one of the btw) but a lot will argue that the lower the colour the diamond the less white light it reflects back (this is a scientific fact) so in layman's terms lower coloured melee are not as bright basically as small stones in higher colours. This, I suspect probably has a large amount to do with which vendor will do what with which stones....

CvB could source lower colored melee as well.

Hi all,

After talking with Steven Kirsch he said he could get ideal cut I, J, K, L melee no problem! Why its so difficult for other vendors I have no idea! Understandably I am sure some just don't want to work with it since lower colors are deemed less desirable. Blah! I disagree with that idea.

I am really glad I didn't have to compromise on this! Steven to the rescue! Once completed I will post picture.

Thanks, again!

Glad you went with someone who gave you exactly what you wanted :)

Perfect. I'm happy you are getting exactly what you wanted! Great news!

Please get the stone appraised independently for color before sending it off for setting.

Ohh I did! I had it sent to GIA for cert and I sent it to two different appraisers.
