Hi all,

I am stuck and not sure what to do. Trying to pick out a diamond for an engagement ring. I have a friend who buys diamonds and has given me to options.

1 - J VS2 around 1.1 crt set in white gold for $4000

2 - H SI1 around 1.1 crt set in white gold for $5070.

Prices in Aus $.

Is it worth paying the extra for the H? The H also comes with a certificate from GIA.

Some advice would be great.

Thank you

H to J is a big jump, J is definitely noticeable (I have a J on my hand as we speak! :) If the H is eye clean and you can swing the difference, that's what I would get. I love my J, but they are definitely not for everyone and stand out as champagne-y next to someone with a higher color diamond. Do you want your fiancee to love her ring for life, or look at her hand and lament, just a little, at the color every time she sees it? Let's face it, most of the recipients of rings will not know the difference between vs2 and si1, but they will likely see the color difference.

Do you have report numbers for both? Can you see the stones in person before making a decision? If both are equally well cut the H will look less tinted than the J, but a well cut J may look less tinted face up than a poorly cut H.

be careful!!...the stone sounds too cheap for a well cut stone. we need more information about the stone.

I'm leaning towards the H. The extra cash is not a problem and I do want her to love it.
