Hello
I have found a GIA princess that is a J colour but has strong fluorescence. I've heard not to go below an I colour princess and have previously had an I princess that was too warm for me (although it wasn't GIA graded so I believe it was a j or k in reality)

Anyway, I'm waiting for the GIA cert but it's 2.63 carats, (7.8 x 7.5 x 5.4) and excellent polish and excellent symmetry. J colour vvs2.

What I'm wondering is, will the strong fluro help make the j appear whiter as per the common opinion?

I think it's a good price due to its colour grading... Circa $14k.

Does fluro affect different shapes differently?

Any help, info or pointers would be wonderful.

Thanks!

wow that does seem like a good price. my princess is 2.09 ct , color I but VS2 and he paid almost that much. my stone faces up very white but in certain lighting I can detect a hint of warmth. Honestly though its rare and I feel like I could have easily gone to a J. I'm not sure how the flour will affect your diamond but i'm sure the experts will weigh in soon!

Hi yassss - I love your ring and remember going through your posts.
I have a 1.55 g si1 princess now which is an excellent cut and dazzles so much but I'm in the process if resetting due to not loving the makeshift cushion halo..... I'm being naughty and thinking of an upgrade to retain my finger coverage......

With princess cuts I like to keep to at least G ,although H can face up rather white if cut well,
the florescence is due to the lighting you need UV light to excite the fluorescence in the stone so light like sunlight will make the stone face up whiter.
In other lighting though it remains yellow and for this reason I wouldn't accept the stone unless you see the diamond and like it or are tolerant to yellow.

thank you so much!! I love it too! I was considering a halo initially but decided against it because I like the clean, sleek lines of a princess. plus I agree with gypsy in that I like split shanks without a halo for square stones so i love how everything came together.

ooh so were you going to put a halo around this stone if you get it? I think you should go up to an H or I and go around 2 carats! still an upgrade and wont be as warm. and you'll still have tons of finger coverage with a halo, and even without if you so choose it! can't wait to see what you decide!

I'm not a princess expert. However, strong blue fluorescence is too much fluorescence for my taste. I'm sensitive to it in general; some are and some aren't bothered by it. It will likely help the diamond look more white, but it also might make it appear hazy or oily. Have you seen the stone in person? It may be nicely priced because of the strong fluorescence. Don't buy before you see the stone up close and personal. Best of luck with your search!

I've heard not to go below an I colour princess and have previously had an I princess that was too warm for me (although it wasn't GIA graded so I believe it was a j or k in reality) Much depends on the size, cut quality of the Princess and various other factors including personal preference. See if you can view the stone in person on approval before the sale is final to see if this diamond is too warm for you or not.

In some lighting the strong fluorescence might help the stone face up a little whiter, I take it the fluorescence is blue? Even if so, whether this Princess is going to be white enough for you is difficult to know, it is after all a J colour.

Does fluro affect different shapes differently? Blue fluorescence is one of those things that's difficult to quantify, it's not really possible to generalize. Albeit rare, you would need to check the fluorescence isn't having a negative effect on the diamond by causing cloudiness or any other negative issues, an independent expert is the best person to advise

Any help, info or pointers would be wonderful.

Thanks!

It sounds like a pretty stone, at a very attractive price! If you have photos and video, they would be great to see!

While I don't own a princess cut, I do have an antique French cut which pre-dates the modern princess and is a J/K color, with strong blue fluorescence. It reads white to me. I also have two other J's, with medium and no fluorescence, respectively. One faces white all the time, and the other shows a bit of color in certain lighting conditions. I'm happy to post side-by-side images of the three pieces together, if it will help you make a decision about J color.

I am of the opinion that moving down the color chart is a great means of maximizing budget and getting into a bigger stone, so long as you stay eye clean and the stone is beautiful to you. Nothing will validate a princess cut stone (or any fancy cut for that matter) more than judging it with your own eyes.

Hi Op, you mentioned that your other stone was a non GIA certed I color and you think it might have been a J or even K. At least with a GIA certed stone you the true color. Does your vendor also offer ASET? If not, you can have your appraiser do it for you, if you go that far. Yes, fluoro will help the J when it's present (but many indoor situations don't have it). I've seen a lot of photots for mrb J's on this forum but not princesses (do a search on the search tool for J princess?)

Does this mean you've paused your reset to consider a new stone? How exciting, either way. A new reset with a different design is nice.

Hi RandG, Id love to see your side-by-side images, that would be awesome. I would most definitely have to view the stone - given my previous experience with a warm princess....

Hi luvdajules
Im having a very brief halt in resetting - I think im being silly but Im going to get some more info on this stone and some asets done too. I would probably want to halo it again, which may cause issues between centre and the pave.

My reset will result in loosing a little bit of my finger coverage but then on the other hand, I'll have a superior setting that will really make my centre "pop" so at the end of the day it may altogether enhance it and I wont feel the change in size....

decisions decisions!

Thanks everyone for your help, Lorelei, Mikla, Yassss, and TreasureHunter, RandG and luvdajules! Ill await more info and post what I receive !!
