If a diamond is rated J by GIA will it look too dark or too yellow? I''m looking at pears and have seen a couple that are GIA J/ SI1''s. I don''t know if I should automatically ignore these or if I should take a closer look.
I think you just described the stone I will likely end up buying: large and fancy. I am shooting for a stone with a really good cut.
When a fancy cut is listed as an ideal or an excellent cut--- does this mean that it is the feeling of that particular jeweler? I am thinking that I read somewhere that GIA doesn''t give a grade of ideal or excellent for anything other than a round.
a "fancy" cut is anything other than a round brilliant...and unfortunately I have found that the GIA cut grade for fancies isn't always accurate, so take it with a grain of salt. For pears you'll notice the color much more than an RB...so a J might be too low for someone who doesn't like any warmth.
GIA doesn't issue cut grades for fancy shapes. When a vendor uses a term like "ideal" for a GIA graded fancy shape, that is the vendor's term, not GIA's. Click on the actual reports, and you will not see a cut grade.
