Will there be more or less traffic on PS?

I missed that! I'll be around more. The constant politics everywhere has been getting to me so I have distanced myself from places I know it will be in order to give my mind a rest.

Impossible to tell. Although it's true some members stayed away from political topics, there's other members who posted almost exclusively politics or news...

The amount of traffic may drop initially, however it will pick up again in no time IMHO.

DK :))

IMO PS is a wonderful place to be and to share and enjoy bling and other people's life experiences. I loved it before and I still love it.

I won't guess to how it will affect the numbers but it's the prerogative of each member to choose as they please. Stay or go. Post or lurk. Read or don't read. No one is forcing anyone to participate or read.

It is not our place to make the rules but it is up to us to follow the rules if we want to stay and to go if we don't want to follow the rules. In the real world that's how life as an adult works. We don't always get everything our own way and we make a decision to participate or not.

Its better to ban it than fall out with people or people getting banned
I come here for bling ...the political threads were a bonus but if its healthier for the community to say no then it just has to be

Although the political discussions weren’t not my politics, I’m glad they’ve gone. I come here for the bling and the friendships I’ve made. Like Missy said , if you join an organisation with rules, then you should abide by them, if you don’t like them, don’t join.

I think it depends on whether the remaining topics interest people. I don't even think people make a conscious decision to go or stay. If they are bored they will wander off somewhere else or vice versa.

It’s been banned again?!?

It’s been banned again?!?

Yes - became too heated.

I have no idea. Political discussion has been allowed and disallowed several times while I have been posting here. If someone wanted to look up whether allowing political discussion encouraged membership, he probably could. If someone wanted to know whether the site was more profitable to its owners, however, or whether it was more influential in the world of diamonds and jewelry, I am not sure looking up simple membership would yield that data.

I miss the political threads. IMO The more eyes on PS the better for it’s vendors and the PS owners. The people that stayed here longer were also IMO the ones who recommended family and friends to vendors. i know I have. If I were a vendor I would want someone recommending my place of business to people.

The world is a crazy place right now and most of the really important topics are tied to politics somehow. Heck even Covid-19 has been made political, Discussions on PS were rarely awful and many of us found them helpful in seeing other sides on issues. At the core I think there is so much that unites us as Americans. Things are never going to be good if we can’t talk to each other. Most of us have family and friends who views things completely differently than we do politically. That’s life, we all have varying opinions.

If discussing politics bothered someone they should have acted like an adult and leave the thread, put the poster on ignore who upset them or stayed out of the political discussions entirely, if you don’t like political threads, stay out of them.

I hope at some point the mods set up a separate political thread where people can discuss politics as Matata and others requested.

I believe it was @smitcompton who pointed out that just because people disagreed here, it didn’t mean they didn’t like the other person. I have disagreed with many here but if they needed help and I could help them I would be right there doing so. I don’t believe I’m the only one who feels this way.

if anyone knows of other political sites where both sides are discussed, can you please mention them in this thread?

@Calliecake Are we allowed to do that? If not, Ella, please delete. Debate Politics has both sides. So does US Message Board and Hannity, but those two can get kind of ugly. I haven't seen too much ugliness on Debate Politics yet, but there's an awful lot of people there and many sections of the forum. I'm spending time at those places (not US message board) because there's too much going on right not to not engage in politics.

@Demon , Are you asling if I was allowed to ask if there are other sites out there for both sides to talk about politics together? I didn’t think that asking this question would be breaking any rules. The last thing I want to do is get banned.

No, I was asking if I was allowed to post other sites? Maybe if they have nothing to do with jewelry, as none of the ones I posted do, lol.

This is all I could find in the rules, and to me it seems to pertain to jewelry forums:" Do not post links or references to any other jewelry information or affiliate websites, forums, videos, blogs, or podcasts."

Thank you @Demon . I didn’t even think about that as others have asked questions many times about finding something they are interested in.

I agree! I learned a lot from the political discussions, whether I agreed with the positions or not. There are a lot of people here that have knowledgeable and historical perspectives that I found informative and stimulating, since politics is something I've never paid much attention to. What I did NOT enjoy are the personal or mob attacks that some on here enjoy anonymously from the safety of their hideaways.

Personally, I've already been around less and that will likely continue. What's left in Hangout now is utterly vapid, non-interesting and banal for the most part, IMHO.

I am deeply hurt. I thought my thread on 'flu vaccinations was scintillating and thought provoking. And was I the only one rolling in aisles laughing at the wit displayed in it?

I agree. IMO, the admin should set a separate political sub forum with no "report concern" button. If members don't wanna talk political then they shouldn't click on the topic simple as that. I don't understand why members kept on reporting posts that they don't agree with? not everyone is gonna agree with your opinion.

Sorry Deb! I don't know if you're kidding or not but I didn't intend to hurt your, or anyone else's feelings. I just went back and read your flu thread and regretfully, found very little wittiness therein.

As much as I hate to say it, I have to agree with @Dancing Fire above. If someone doesn't like a subject, or is hyper-sensitive, then just stay out. I also agree with @Calliecake that keeping people ON THE BOARD in whatever way admin can, is beneficial not just for the board but for the vendors as well. I think banning political threads was a big mistake.

I agree with you, thank you for writing about this problem.

Please check Hangout often, you never know when the next disagreement may happen the next time  Any innocent thread may unexpectedly become a bloody battlefield :)).

Well, I think that's exactly why political threads have been disallowed. There's no reason for any subject to become a "bloody battlefield", even though they become HIGHLY entertaining. In my personal opinion, one shouldn't talk to others online in a different manner than one would in person. To me, that is cowardly and disrespectful. If some people talked to others like they post on here, they would deservedly get their butts kicked IRL.

The entire country and many people around the world are riveted by American politics these days. Not being allowed to talk about it is unrealistic and a simplistic solution to a non-existent problem. I mean, there's only so much jewelry talk anyone can take or be entertained by...

LMAO! I'll adopt your pup.
