It seemed to be a much bigger deal than it should be, but we''ve finally decided that we do want to have the wedding in Texas. Between the locale and the ring, I just can''t trust my first instinct anymore!

We polled all the important people and then started thinking about transportation for his handicapped cousin and decided we would have more options in Texas than here in Maryland... then I started thinking about all the details and all the planning and how I really didn''t want to do it all... and then some sort of lightbulb clicked on... so I am now a TEXAS bride!

My mom is, of course, ecstatic. I''ve turned in three date choices to the country club so they can book me once they''ve decided on their golf tournament schedule. I''ve booked a trip down in November to decide if the ceremony will be in the gardens of the club or in my grandmother''s back yard, adn will start to meet with florists, the caterer, cake bakers, register, etc... and finally I feel like I''m making some headway! I just really needed to make a decision!

Now, with that out of the way, let the fun begin!

Congratulations from another Texas bride! I''ll be long distance planning too, since FH and I live in CA. Which city are you getting married in?

It will be in Texarkana, where my family lives. We actually thought about Austin for awhile, but everybody here wants to actually see my hometown, and there's the lure of an after-party in my grandmother's pool egging me on... I think it will be special, and considering how excited my sister and mother were about helping with the ring, I think it will be good for both of them. Sis is going through a divorce and recovering from a long, debilitating illness, so this will give her something to have fun with... and I do trust them, but we will be making several trips just to check things out!

eta: what city for you Ebree?

Sumbride, I went to the wedding of a friend at the Texarkana CC. It was gorgeous! She had white roses everywhere. You will love it. Although I think it wasn''t actually in the Texas part of Texarkana because the Texas part is dry.

That''s right Appletini... the TCC is in Arkansas... but it''s still got a "Texas" feel to it. It''s all blurry there anyway...

But yes, the club is gorgeous! I spent a lot of time there as a kid... at weddings, dinners, brunches, everything... it''s the only place I would have the reception in Texarkana! I looked at a couple of other places for the ceremony because I wasn''t sure they could do them, but they have a big enough garden, and then there''s always my grandmother''s backyard... it''s 2 acres... plenty of room! (Texas sized)

Congrats, sounds beautiful. I''m doing the long distance planning too. I live in CA, but the wedding will be near family in MN.

I'm getting married in Dallas. At the Dallas Arboretum, actually! I'm so excited. My next trip East will be this December, and I'm hoping I'll get to make a few more before September of next year!

Oh, Ebree... that sounds great! I think I saw some wedding tv show with a wedding held there... gorgeous!

Had my 1st preference date rejected by the 4-states fair and rodeo... completely forgot about that... been away from home too long I guess. My neice, who will be 16 next year, is competing for "Rodeo Queen". She would so not forgive me if I told her she couldn''t because of my wedding! So we''re going to date choice #2.

Congrats! Just be sure to take the heat into account when setting the date...don''t want to schvitz in your dress.

Ha, so true! I''ve heard that request from everyone in the WP! It will be October 6th, so hopefully not too hot!

Congrats on settling yet another big decision!

Yay Sumbride!! Sounds liek a great choice and you''ll have some help with the planning this way. You know, Texarkana isn''t really that far from me....

Maybe I''ll be rude and invite myself (JUST KIDDING!!!) In all seriousness, though, should you need any help with AR resources, I''ll be glad to if I can... and I know there''s an arkansas weddings website, too, you might check out (nice to have a list of vensors in one place). Congrats for making progress!

Hey Jen - What part of Arkansas are you in? I forgot that''s where you were! Please let me know that website! The Knot excludes Arkansas completely from their areas list and Texas only has "major cities" instead of generalized areas like most other states. ARGH!!!

My mom is raving about the new florist in town and the new cake lady! She goes to a lot of weddings.... We''ve booked our first trip down for Veteran''s day weekend to start meeting all these people. I know I can trust her on flowers and cake but am a little nervous about the dj... just keep remembering the violin trio my sister had... Um, no! We''re so not "violin people".

Selkie - Everything is just starting to fall into place! I picked my colors... sapphire blue and champagne, with some wedgewood blue in my dress (hopefully! plan to have it made). Do you have any blue flower arrangement picture saved up from when you were thinking blue and silver? I doubt I''ll find many blue flowers in season in October, but.... Oh, and I just sent Jen her "will you be my MOH?" card! I''m going to let her choose if she wants to wear champagne or sapphire, but I want the BMs to wear the dark blue. I think the champagne would be so pretty with her hair!

I think in light of the cost of everything in DC metro... you made a great choice. Congrats!!

I agree Gypsy... it''s so expensive here!!!!... as you''re finding out right now!

I wasn''t sure if I could post website addresses here, but then I realized everyone else does (duh). It''s arkansasbride.com I didn''t see anything right away about Texarkana, but at least it''s a start... I''m in Little Rock, about 2 hours away. It''s usually where I stop when I''m heading to Dallas.

Great colors! I''m probably still going to have two cobalt blue glass bowls of flowers on the buffet table that will be mostly cream with blue and silver accents. Maybe roses with irises, or something like that. I also like the antique blue hydrangea look. I don''t really have many pictures, but if I run across any I''ll post them.

Champagne would be a great color on Jen, but then so would the sapphire. Have you started thinking about dress styles yet? I seemed to consistently prefer dresses that had blue accents in them, including this one from Alfred Angelo. It was just too much dress for my wedding, but I loved the embroidery.

Oops. And: link

I did have a Martha Stewart Weddings floating around (someone gave it to me, honest!) with different flower colors schemes, one of which was blue and silver. I''ll dig that up, and see if it had anything good.

Thanks Jen- I''ll check that out!

Selkie - WOW! Thank you! I have seen that AA dress before and love it, but didn''t know that any of their color dresses can be done in any color! Definitely some great options! I wanted some sleeves, but I don''t think it would be hard to add some off the shoulder sleeves to one of those strapless dresses. I just really don''t want strapless... and that''s almost all there is now. But with the right seamstress.... Hmmm...

I live here in Dallas, and the Arboretum is absolutely gorgeous! I went to a wedding there a couple of years ago in May, and it was just unbelievably beautiful!

EBree, when you''re coming to town, email me [email protected] . . . maybe some of us DFW PSers can finally get together or something.

Made another decision! I think we''ve found our photographer... I have a great friend from college who is an amazing photographer but says she just wants to be a guest... so I begged her for some personal recommendations that aren''t that far from me, and she came up with several but I think we''re going to book this guy:

Jason Hudson Photos

So exciting!!!

And Sk8terJen... if you''re looking, he''s out of Fayetteville.

Yeah, I love that there are 47 different colors available! The blue in that dress would look amazing with your coloring. And I hear you on the strapless, I''m still wondering how I''m going to pull it off (so to speak) in the dress I got. I LOOOOOVE the dress itself though, and I''m concentrating on those upper body workouts. I have thought about adding straps or sleeves as well.

I like that photographer''s work, and if Heather recommended him, I bet he''s good! Have you booked him?

I''ve got a contract from him right now... just going over the details! I''m relieved to not have to go with the blah blah portrait photographers that are so typical in my hometown.

And Selkie - you can totally pull of strapless! As long as it''s fitted right, it will look fab on you!
