One of my new projects is to help DD''s BF pick a diamond. Of course they don''t realize how much help I get from the great people here on PS.
She''s been asked what she likes and we are going to try our best to find it while staying within the budget. Always a challenge.
We will be looking for an oval in 1.5tcw because she wants a larger stone. A search has shown that rounds are just too expensive particularly if they are Ideal cuts. I purchased my diamond from WF and she adores the brilliance and sparkle so I know it would have to be a decent round to please her. By selecting an oval it reduces some of the pressure in finding an Ideal cut round.
In an effort to compare prices between rounds and ovals I came across a very interesting diamond.
It is considerably less expensive than some of the other PS vendors and I would like to know if we should pursue this. The only problem is I have worked with WF who are amazing to deal with as well as GOG. This vendor is USA Certed Diamonds and I''m not sure of their reputation.
So far though they have been prompt with my emails and very accommodating. They sent me a copy of the AGS certificate and the stone looks good. There are many inclusions on the table which worries me and I would need to have the stone sent to a local appraiser which all sounds too complicated to me and will probably scare the BF. But I have this feeling I should give this some serious thought. One more thing about the inclusions. DD has adopted the philosophy that she doesn''t want to pay for something she can''t see, therefore SI1 is fine with her as long as the inclusions don''t interfere with the performance. This diamond has many inclusions scattered throughout the table but supposedly is "eye clean".
Here are the specs:
1.5 H SI1
AGS Ideal
Depth: 61.8
Table: 56
CA: 34.8
PA: 40.8
CH: 15.1
PH: 42.9
Fluor: negligible
Girdle: medium (not sure of exact # because my screen blurs that info but it looks like 1._ - 4.__)
Dimension: 7.42 x 7.31 x 4.57 (Is this ok?)
HCA score: 1.5, ex,ex,ex,vg
What precautions should I be aware of if I''m to proceed with this stone? USACert is in Ontario. Is there any special taxes and fees I should be aware of? I''m in NJ so we have access to some great appraisers in the city. But I don''t like the idea of spending money to ship back and forth as well as 100''s of dollars to have it appraised. Its just that the price is comparable to an oval we are looking at and this round stone might be a winner.
