This year I'm doing big bars. no more "fun size" because I had about 25 kids and gained 3lbs. I'll be less likely to just grab one and you know how kids are, they can't keep secrets!

So what are you giving out this year, or are you shutting the lights off and pretending to not be home?

Not something that’s a big thing here. We lock our pedestrian gate so they can‘t come up to the house. I don’t think we’ve actually had any trick or treaters in the 8 years we’ve lived here.

It happens where I live up in Cheshire @Austina . Thankfully we live in a teeny village in the middle of nowhere with an ancient pub in the middle, so it's an organised event & it's my girls favourite night of the year. Everybody dresses up & meets at 6pm, then head out to knock on the doors as one, so you have to leave one partner behind to dish out the goodies en masse, then grab your coat & join the train. Afterwards everybody heads to the pub for games, apple bobbing, marshmellow toasting, juice & cake. And alcohol for the grownups, who by then are in need of a stiff drink to warm up & settle jangled nerves! We don't pay at the pub as our Parish Council foots the bill.

But this year for the first time ever we will be missing it, as Halt Term is a week later than usual. This hol is when my entire family (18 of us, just my side - not the Out Laws) head to a huge farm house on Anglesey. Kids & dogs running everywhere - brilliant fun! We are decorating the house tomorrow & then doing a treasure hunt for the goodies. Everybody will be in fancy dress & full face paints, plus the wine will be flowing for the adults. We can never make too much noise as we have 40 acres of land, which is a good job as it's chaos! And I am missing my beloved A-ha in concert on Sat night as a result of the late hol, so brother in law is going full pelt with his streaming service so that we can all have a boogie!

We bought fun size candy and lots of it so we are ready this year. This is only our second Halloween spent at the beach house and the first time we were here during Halloween nobody showed. But last year when we weren't here we saw on the Security cameras that we got some trick or treaters so now we are ready.

I just hope they come early and not late as I head to bed around 7:30 PM no joke as I am awake super early all days. So fingers crossed they are early birds. If they want the good candy they will show up early!

Some of our neighbors really get into it and decorate their houses to the max but we don't do that.

We ended up with 10 boxes of candy this year. I bought 4. My husband didn't see them and bought 4 more. My daughter bought 2. We're now expecting a bad storm tonight. Even if we give overflowing handfuls, I don't think we'll get through the candy. Yikes.

Oh @missy, your neighbour's decorations are quite gruesome! We tend towards the more light hearted (I'll try and get some pics). Some years are busier than others but I have noticed more of a trend towards decorating houses and I think that's now taken as an invitation to knock on the door (or knock). Kids do a little 'performance', some of the jokes are soooo bad, but some can be quite funny.

@Alex T your event sounds quite lovely and so community spirited.

Haha yes so true. Lol I didn’t even think of that. Scary decorations for sure. When I was little I think I enjoyed scary more.

OMG @lyra 10 boxes?

Its currently 86 degrees, so by tonight low 80's and nice. I'm hoping there will be a few more kids than normal. First year here I got 4 kids..... last year was 25, and maybe because people figured I had good treats (I did chips and prezels last year...grab bag sized. I tried to do gluten free/ vegan friendly options as well (skittles and starburst are according to PETA) I got the super sour skittles as I'm told they're a favorite by the kiddos. and some dog treats. for the truly allergy sensitive, money. (dollar coins!)

I also did the regular twix bars, snickers, and 3 musketeer bars for everyone else. I think there's snickers almonds in there as well.

I'll be going to the Kennel Club on Friday as thats the start of their holiday food drive. I'll put them in there with my normal donations so no temptation left around here.

I'm not going to dress up really, wear some alien eyeballs on my head....lol (my light up shirt finally broke this year...stupid me left the batteries in it and they leaked)

We are having a “Hallowsgiving” party this weekend for our friends. It’s a mix of Halloween and thanksgiving. So we are cooking up a “corpse” using thanksgiving flavors. I’m doing a baked stuffing skull (bought a bundt pan shaped like a skull!), cranberry sauce heart, ribs as ribs, turkey leg arms, a “brain” gravy, and ground turkey stuffed “intestines”.

Something like this, but I’ll come back with picture of our version after this weekend!

Also open to other ideas!

Screen Shot 2019-10-31 at 2.36.55 PM.png

HOW TO MAKE A PUMPKIN:
  1. Place Bean dip in your serving bowl.
  2. Mix sour cream in a bowl and add a little water to thin it out.
  3. Add to a piping bag or a zip lock bag you can use as a bag by just cutting a 1/4″ triangle from the corner to pipe the outline of a jack-o-lantern pumpkin.
  4. Use shredded cheese to fill the center
  5. Use guacamole to make the stem
  6. Olives cut into triangles for the eyes and nose
  7. Cut a strip of tomatoes to resemble teeth.
  8. You can sprinkle added toppings along the side of the dip for your guests to scoop up.
  9. Another option is to serve all the other toppings in side bowls.
  10. If you want to serve this warmed, pipe the sour cream border and place the cheese on. Bake until dip is warmed and melted then add decorative face after baking.
And some more gruesome ideas

I just got to our house in Maryland..This will be the first Halloween here. I didn’t buy the bars of chocolate as I am more likely to eat those! I bought the snack size that have Twix, M&Ms, Snickers, and Milky Ways...They don’t tempt me at all...but I LOVE Hershey Milk chocolate bars so I didn’t buy any of those...

LOL! No I don't eat them. I just dream about eating them haha. No wait I lie. I do eat one dark chocolate PB cup a day (from TJ) for the past few weeks even though it has soy and I am not supposed to have soy. Just because I am in a weakened state due to stress and not sleeping so I decided to allow myself this one thing until RW is resolved. Or until my endocrinologist says to stop. We will see if my antibodies went up (Hashimoto's) and that would mean I have to stop. But for now I am indulging. You only live once, right? Eat that candy, it's Halloween! But only if you will LOVE it. Save your sweet tooth for something you will truly enjoy. XO.

I like them both...but I think the peanut ones a little more...I’m donating the leftovers from both houses to the senior center after I get home. I will eat them...They tasted better than I remembered! :doh:Which ones do you like?

Depends on my mood but generally the peanut ones (when I could eat M&Ms). I would let it melt in my mouth and then eat the peanut. So yummy. And I know the colors supposedly taste the same but I preferred the green one most then the blue one. LOL

Omg! This is the first time I was here on Halloween. I bought a gigantic bag of snack size candy...the kind you get at Costco...They are coming in droves! I’m starting to panic that I’ll run out! My husband is in Pa..and said he didn’t get one trick or treater there! We usually get around three or four at the most...This looks like the scene from the movie Hocus Pocus! I love that movie! Watch it tonight if you can..It’s so cute!

Oh no and lol. We have had about 12 trick or treaters so far. But Greg is too generous and gave each kid like 10-15 mini bars (this was at 4pm) and I’m like we have no idea how many kids will come. What if we run out. Lol he said we’re not going to run out. Hope you don’t run out either Joanne. Fingers crossed!

I never saw that movie. Will check it out. Thanks for the recommendation.

It is mayhem in our house when the door bell rings (four dogs), so we sadly do not participate in handing out candy :(sad

Here are pictures of the hooligans.
