I received my ring and took it to an independent appraiser (from pricescope). While he was looking at the construction of the ring, he noticed one of the prongs was bent slightly to the left and wasn''t straight. He said it was more "cosmetic" and shouldn''t effect the integrity of the prong holding the diamond.

Should I be worried about this? I''m more interested in preventative maintenance as I don''t want this minor issue to turn into a bigger one. I contacted the place I bought the ring from (online) and they had no problem with me sending it back and fixing it.

The question is, this seems like quite a hassle. Do I let this go and not worry about it? Do I send it back to the online vendor? Or should I look into finding a jeweler in my area to fix this?

Thanks for your insight, I appreciate it...

If the appraiser thought it was a cosmetic issue, I would tend to believe him. That being said I am a perfectionist so I probably would send it back to be fixed! But that is just me because I am anal sometimes.

Without pictures, it''s hard to give you an honest assessment. At any rate, what you do about the prong depends on how bothersome it is to you. If it troubles you enough, just pack it up and send it back. The shipping back and forth will take more time than the fixing but at least it will be right and off your mind.

Best of luck to you - I know it''s hard to send back what you''ve just received but it could be time well spent if you''re really bummed about the prong!

I would return it and have them fix it. Sorry to hear you had a problem with the new ring.

I know it''s hard to part with but I would send it back to the online vendor for repair

Ditto what Neatfreak said.

The appraiser has seen the prong on close inspection - they are the best person to answer this question.
If you didn''t cover it to your satisfaction while you were there, just call back and tell them your concerns.

Thanks for everyone''s responses!

Unfortunately I''m the same way neatfreak, so I think sending it back is a good idea. Peace of mind for my perfectionist mind...
