Is your diamond sometimes more sparkly than other times?

The cz vs real diamond post on RT has me a little paranoid.

I''m at a convention today and under various types of lighting. I notice that my ring is a lot more sparkly than it ever has been and I''ve seen different flashes of color. I''ve already had 4 people comment on the ring because of it. After reading the CZ post, I''m a little worried. I''m sure I have no reason to be worried but I am lol

It''s not "fire", it''s more like flashes of different colors. Is there a sure way of telling the difference? I''m tempted to take it to a jeweler

Halogen lighting makes diamonds look super sparkly and colorful-I bet the convention center had halogen lighting.

Fiery I don't think you need to worry honestly, it sounds as if your diamond is behaving normally according to the lighting it was in, it sounds like what I term and think of as ' colour scintillation' which can show as pastel colours in the stone rather than shooting out of it as bold fire, this can often be best observed under a leafy tree with the sun shining through the leaves. If you are worried, get your jeweller to use a diamond tester on it or loupe it to check your inclusions and match to the report if possible.

Fiery, I too freaked OUT after reading that thread! I think I even DREAMPT (sp?) about it!!! We are all waaaaayyyy too paranoid about our diamonds. My diamond is definitely more sparkly and less sparkly depending on the day and the lighting. Seriously - sometimes I think it looks like not my diamond, but then 10 minutes later I realize it is.

I have to admit, that thread made me a bit nervous as well, especially since my set is an estate piece, and I just took pics of my diamond that show blue flashes of color. My diamond has a GIA report, and it definitely has a largish table as specified by the report, but I''m still a little concerned. I feel foolish for worrying, the experts over at RT seemed to de-bunk the blue flash/cz theory, but I may have a jeweler check it anyway. You weren''t the only one a little thrown by that thread fiery! But, having said all that, I am sure we are worrying for nothing!

Thanks for the responses guys. Sorry I didn''t respond sooner. I''m sure it''s just the lighting at the convention. It does make you think though!

DF,
I just purchased a diamond tester like the one you showed.
How do you like yours? Any tips you can share about it?

This could be a good business for you - course all of your customers would probably just be PSer's but what the heck? Diamonds can be so hard to photograph and you've got all the stuff for gorgeous diamond photography!

Just think about having a portrait of your diamond above the fireplace instead of one of the lady of the house - would definitely be a good conversation piece!

Zhu...mine is a RS Mizar Prestige Series 2 which was purchased about 5 yrs ago.i really like my diamond tester, but i think there''re cheaper and better made testers nowadays.

of course - depends on the lighting! :)
