Is this too big for wearing most days?

After ogling and appreciating everybody’s bling for a long time, I finally have a question of my own to ask. TLDR: Is this 2.4 carat solitaire pendant too large for regular wear and should be exchanged for a more “versatile” size (1-1.5 ct, say)? Long form: I told hubby that I wanted a floating round brilliant diamond pendant for my b day, one that will go with everything. When he asked about size, I said “no smaller than 1ct”. Well, the b day came and oh crap! Hubby went bigger than I expected. He found a great deal on a 2.4 carat, Ex-Ex-Ex, F, VVS2 and got it. I am not sure I will wear it as often as I would like for fear of seeming too showy… If it were a 1.25 carat, I would not think twice about throwing it on and heading to Costco. But at almost double that, hmmmm. I just don’t know. Should I exchange it for a smaller diamond? Or get a smaller diamond necklace for everyday, but keep this beauty? The size is not something I was ready for. For reference, my daily diamond studs at 1.5 tcw, wedding ring diamond 1.35ct. IMG_9250.jpeg

I think it’s lovely & if you love it, keep it & wear it!

I have a friend who came from money but is very much a non-showy, farm loving horse rider type of girl. Her mother died when she was 9 & she inherited a LOT of jewellery (tiaras included!). Most of it sits in the safe, but when she was 18 she put on the 3ct round solitaire pendant that her mother wore 24/7 & has never taken it off. She’s 42 now & she ROCKS that necklace, whether at dinner with us or down in the stables, literally covered in muck. It’s just a very blinding, sparkly part of who she is. Sometimes we worry what other people think a bit too much. Don’t overthink & enjoy!

That is beautiful and you wear it well!

I like my engagement/wedding ring to be my biggest diamond but that’s certainly not a requirement. People acquire diamonds at different points in their lives.

Would the 2.4 work in your wedding ring? Then you could put the 1.35 in a pendant. I know a lot of people are sentimental about their rings, though, so I hope that you’re not offended at this idea…or even if it would work/fit.

That’s a really good suggestion! I also like my engagement ring to be the best / biggest diamond I have, so it would be worth considering swapping them if you’re comfortable to do so?

Thank you for sharing this backstory. I love how your friend and her pendant have become one. You are right - no reason to overthink it. Maybe I can dress it up or dress it down. I do love it! I am sure DSS will make the pendant look just right in no time!

Nah, wear diamonds as big as your neck muscles can hold up and if necessary invest in a gym membership to increase your carat carrying capacity.
Seriously though, I find that diamonds “shrink” in size as you wear them. My 5.5 carat lab diamond ring seemed HUGE a few months ago and now, I’m thinking that 10 carats would be a very nice size :twisted2:

Whoooa! I did not even consider this as an option or possibility. You are blowing my mind here! That’s definitely something to consider. When hubby bought my wedding diamond, he split it between more than a few credit cards, so that stone is precious to us. But wearing it right over my heart would certainly honor it. I love this idea!!!

lol! I am rolling reading this. That’s so true! I train to lift heavy diamonds :) There is something magical about a big rock. Thank you for the encouragement to just flaunt it. I know it will shrink soon enough in my eyes. Maybe the shock of it now is part of the enjoyment.

I agree 1000% with Bron, it is gonna shrink on you. In 2019 hubby and I bought online my 3.6 ct for me. When it arrived I was quite taken back and surprised myself with almost being embarrassed by it. Now I'm caught off guard if anyone comments on it because I don't think it looks big, lol. I can't even imagine how fast it would work with a pendant that I can't really see all the time.

Exactly, you captured the sentiment. Almost embarrassed by it. That’s how I felt too at first. But you all are changing my mind very quickly! A 3.6 ct pendant is unimaginable at first, I am sure. And yet, easy to wear over time!

wow !
i dont see the size of the diamond being any problem compaired to say a teeny weeny diamond
depending on your lifestyle and occupation id be more thinking about the dangle

My husband clearly wants to see more low-cut tops, hence the dangle. lol. When I put the pendant on the 16 inch length, the dangle is in a more conservative place. I am glad the size is not something you would bat an eye at.

:lol-2:i see everyone else is referring to size
go big or go home !!
i would rock a rock that big !
it looks fantastic
Thank you for sharing! I am glad people generally consider this a wearable size. I was a little shy about it at first. But I think I am getting over it.

It looks beautiful! I would wear it and enjoy it. He wanted you to have it so why not? If it looked over the top or out of place, I would tell you so. You have a long, lovely neck and it looks fabulous on you - honestly!!

Awwwww! What a kind note of encouragement. Thank you for saying that it suits me and I can wear it proudly. I will start taking this rock out on dates with myself! I now have confidence that I am pulling it off fine and it is not wearing me.

Absolute perfection! You are lovely and it’s a beautiful size on you, wear it with confidence.

oh my, you are making me tear up! thank you for saying this with so much kindness. I WILL wear it. Thank you for this immense boost in confidence.

I don't think it's too big. It's got very nice presence, but doesn't look at all over the top to me. Wear it and enjoy it.

Well you know what I always say - if one of the diamonds you wear seems “too big”, just size up all the rest and it’ll blend right in ;)

But seriously, that is a gorgeous pendant (love the dangle!!) and I don’t think it’s too big at all! But you could certainly swap your ering stone for the pendant stone if you wanted as well! I’d wear it as a pendant for some time and see how you feel. But don’t swap it out for a smaller one - diamonds have a funny way of just shrinking on ya.

You are fine - rock the rock with pride!!

It looks great as a pendant and also i love the idea of setting it in a ring and using your original ering diamond as a pendant because i like wearing my largest diamond in my hand where i can see and enjoy it.

I am in the camp of go big or go home when it comes to pendants as I can't wear dainty small ones as they will disappear around my big chunky neck!

Joking aside, wear whatever you are comfortable with.

DK :))

It’s gorgeous! And it is NOT too big. I wear a 2.56 carat round soli pendant daily (and nope, I have not managed a post yet, sorry!!!). Also, as others have mentioned, it will seem to shrink as you get used to it.

One thing that may be throwing you is the setting. Is the lariat tail part of it? That makes it more of a statement than just a solitaire pendant. You can also play around with length. Try it shorter (you may have to just hold it up to do it) and see if that feels more casual.

But overall my advice is: wear that sucker. All the time.

Attached is a not so great photo of mine for reference.

Gorgeous - we are still waiting on your reveal - lol!!

It looks beautiful on you. Enjoy wearing your gorgeous necklace. We only get one life. Have fun!

I think the size looks great on you, and the lariat style is so unique! I agree with others that you should wear it as-is for a while, and that switching it with your ER stone could be a great solution if it still feels too large in the long run.
